Thought I would post this in the problems section as well for anyone that may come across the same issue later on...

Recently I began to notice some vibration in the front and rear while braking so I decided to take the truck into the dealer today. Net, the front and rear rotors were warped...at 4,000 miles, with 1k from a trip that we just made this past weekend with mostly highway driving and very little braking. They machined the fronts but I have to go back to do the rears. However, I'm not sure I'm happy with the fact that they were machined and not replaced. Clearly, there is a problem with the build quality of my particular set rotors if they warped in 3,000 miles.

Not a good day for me guys... :crying:

I am having the same vibration when I brake on my Truck when I brake. I only have 3,000 Miles!!!! Did your dealer charge you at all, or give you any trouble about your braking habbits?

Phedge, there should definitely be no charge. The service writer tried to indicate that it could be due to riding the brakes but I promptly told him and his manager that was an unnacceptable reason for the problem and I wanted to know the real reason for warpage. Apparently, there is a pending TSB that Nissan will be issuing so they machined the rotors in the interim.

Talked to the dealer today

karl,

i talked to my service manager today at the dealer I got the truck from. He said "let me know when you can bring it in and I will order some new Rotors for it. So, I am happy that I will be getting new ones, but I hope it does not happen again.

thanks,

That really ,really sucks to hear this! I hope these are remote cases but already two instances with the mileage stated! Does everyone notice a lot of brake pad dust on their rims? All the vehicles I ever driven I never seen such a thing. Maybe this should be brought up with the dealers has anyone ever mentioned this to their dealers? I know someone posted Nissan is using soft pads and if anything the pads are going to need to be replaced sooner. Do you think that could be having an effect on the rotors warping? Perhaps more pressure is being exerted causing perhaps excessive heat that may be causing the rotors to warp? Jeep Grand Cherokees are notorious for that.

I purchased my truck last week and have noticed alot of brake dust as well. My '02 Tundra didn't have this dust issue. However we used to own an '01 Sentra with the same brake dust build up. I was constantly cleaning her wheels. No brake issues with the car though. I just assumed it was the type of pad Nissan uses. Now after reading this I'm more concerned.

I have seen a lot of brake dust on all of the last 3 vehicles that I have/do own...

2001 Toyota Tundra
2002 Acura RSX - S
2004 - Titan

I think it is very common within the industry. I believe it is just the brake pads that they use nowadays. If I'm not mistaken didn't brake pads used to contain a lot of asbestos? Obviously they don't anymore and there is a big push to use "green, environmental friendly" materials in pads. I think this is a big cause of brake pad dust buildup. Nothing to be concerned with at all...so please don't make the dust an issue....it is common.

Ahhh yes asbestos that post war wonder material.

Foiund in pipe and furnace insulation materials; asbestos and cement shingles, siding, and roofing; millboard; resilient floor tiles, the backing on vinyl sheet flooring, and floor tile adhesives; soundproofing or decorative material; patching and joint compound; fireproof gloves and stove-top pads; and automobile brake pads and linings, clutch facings, and gaskets.

Those were the days before we knew what the word toxic meant. :fart:

That's great Phedge. Glad to hear you're getting taken care of correctly.

I think this is more prevelant than we originally thought as Nissan is working on a TSB, and Armada's have been having the same problem (several owners on Edmunds have mentioned worped rotors).

I'm sure they will get to the bottom of this soon.

Anyone know a site where you can view Nissan TSB's? I had a Jeep before my Titan and there was this mechanic that had a site that posted TSB's for Chrysler vehicles. It was a wealth of information. It would be great to have access to these TSB's esp.after 3yrs 36Kmi. is up.

I also had the warped rotars. They were machined and is ok now. If it happens again i want new rotars and pads. Still love the truck though.

Funny to hear the name Datsun again... I was surprised during a recent trip to Japan by some late-model Frontier type trucks with Datsun written on their tailgates.

BTW, thanks for the link!
