Weekend Racer Short Belt Mod

Ok I have done my measureing and did a good deal of hunting at the Auto Part Store. After making 4-5 trips I got a belt that will work. It is 60 inches long and it fits perfect. It is one groove less in width then the stock belt. But I could not find one the same width and length that I needed.

This mod by-passes the A/C pump and the power steering pump. Another great thing...if you have your windows fogging up at the track you can use your heater and not worry about the A/C pump engaging.

So if anyone does this make sure all pulleys are in the same groove. It will work great just make sure all pulleys are running in the same groove.

I have included a picture of the product and a diagram of the belt path. Belt Part #'s 4060600 6PK1525

I pulled my intake but off so I would have an easier path too the belt and it's pulleys. Then I took a 14MM socket and placed it on the tensionor pulley. You pull this to the passenger side of the truck and it loosens the belt. Pull the stock belt off and put in a safe place!!!

Put the short pulley on the same way the OEM belt came off. But if your belt is one groove less in width as mine is make sure all pulleys are running on the same groove or you will possibly shred the belt.

I took the truck out too my normal testing spot and ran 4 runs. Came back home.....pulled the shorty belt off and put the OEM belt back on. Waited about an hour to make sure the engine has cooled so the test would be similar.

On average I gained about .1 tenth of a second in the 1/4 mile and my trap speed came up .82 MPH.

I think I may have been able to do a little more. I seemed to have more wheel spin with the shorty belt....I will dyno this mod after I get my headers put on in a couple weeks.

So if you want to get every inch out of your truck at the track this mod works and the belt swaps out in a matter of minutes. Beware....do this at the track. This truck is very hard to drive with the power steering pump bypassed.

When I did track day and dyno day with the Hemi guys last month I watched one run 14.16....put the belt on...and run a 13.96.

They dyno'd it and yes it was about 7-10 HP!!!

So that set me on my quest to develope my own short belt!!!!

Bringing up an old old old one here. Anyone doing this? I've been thinking about it and wondering if the 60" belt is still the best option.

Talk to Rossie or RB's. I know one of them have a thread somewhere about it. It does work! :)

Would you just buy a Chevy already!

just kidding

Make sure you bring a good light to the track so you can see each pulley groove clearly. When I changed the OEM belt to a Gatorback, it was a pain in the butt making sure the belt was sitting properly in each pulley. An extra pair of hands would make it much easier.

Anyone ever find a belt that is the same width as our OEM belt? I'll see if I can find a 60" belt the same width.

I'm not sure, I'm lazy and waiting for you guys to do all the testing. I just googled the part # TT posted LOL. I heard its really not to hard, I haven't done it yet though...Hopefully we have a 7 rib so this will work, guess you could google a 6 rib 60"?

wow your times are incredible already. I thought you have done every thing to squeeze out every ounce of hp and torque. This 1 little mod would put you into the 12's. I'm still working on getting to the 13 area.

Doing the routing as the first post suggests but also using e-fans you would bypass the clutch pulley and the idler, going straight from the water pump to CS.

I'm surprised how little wrap the water pump has as designed!

I've done the short belt mod, and was able to keep my power steering for daily driving, it was easy to do, no one has it like me yet. Its like the motor woke up with the hole fan pulley/bracket gone. I'm going to have a CRAZY 60"
I'm running dual 4500cfm electric fans.

I found a belt short enought to buy pass the fan pulley, but there is a hard line that runs between the crank and PS that the belt rubbed on. Finally got tired of messing with the routing and returned it.
The hard line must be a 04 only item, looks like the 05-Up guys do not have the line in the way.
