Hyperion hy PEER eh un
Father of the Sun
No matter which text you believe, Hyperion was, without doubt, the father of Helios, Eos and Selene. In the Homeric Hymn to Helios, Eryphaesa is the mother.
In Hesiod, Theogony, line 372, the mother of Eos, Helios and Selene is listed as Theia. She and Hyperion were Titans of the same generation as Kronos, and like Kronos, were the children of Gaia (or Ge) and Ouranos. Hyperion was the eldest son, his name means ’the one above’.
Hyperion in The Iliad (listed by book and line)
08.480 ...the sun god Hyperion
Hyperion in The Odyssey (listed by book and line)
01.022 ...the setting and rising of Hyperion
12.133 ...Neaira and Hyperion, the sun god
12.176 ...the light of Hyperion
12.263 ...the Sun God Hyperion
12.347 ...the Sun God Helios Hyperion
12.375 ...Hyperion the Sun God
