Since I got my Titan I've been listening to the sound the engine makes so that I can tell when something is going wrong.

I noticed that my truck's engine is mostly a soft clickty-clack, as whooshing from the fan, and a large click when some wheel looking thing (yeah, not much on engine parts) start spinning every 30 seconds or so (the alternator? it's on the right side/bottom of the engine).

That is your A/C compressor. It cycles on and off as it builds up pressure in the A/C system. Does it click and rattle very loud as the clutch(little wheel) spins? That might be a problem.

Otherwise...it is completely normal.

What you should here is one click when the clutch engages and a very faint shutter sound while it spins.

The truck is just a month old and the click is a single one. The AC compressor makes sense because the defroster is on most of the time in the morning.

Still, it's a loud click.

The soft clickty clack sound, as you put it, is normal. It's the fuel injectors. And I agree that it's the AC compressor because it makes a noticable (from outside the truck) click as it comes on. The 08 motors are much quieter than the 04s were.

mine has the clicky noise (which as stated above is the fuel injectors), a tock...tock.... tock... sound from the passenger side, an intermittent whistling noise at idle, and exhaust noise that goes along with the engine (put put put put put put put put put...)

Last night I started getting a whine, whine, whine, whine from the rear seating area.

Mine just sort of rumbles and mumbles, but if you listen close... it sure sounds like, "Here, ricer...ricer.... Come on.... Here little ricer....."

Mine sounds like shlt right now, when its cold - the damn thing screeches/squeeks/whines/whistles/whatever you wanna call it. Its really embarassing. I *think* the damn belt up front needs to be replaced, at least I'm hoping thats it. I only have about 15,800 miles on it, 2006.

Other than that, I just hear the thing gulping gas like there is no tomorrow.
