I know we are all truck people, but if you had to get a car, not suv or truck, what would you get? Try to keep it around $40k and under, about the same as a fully loaded Titan. Since we all have the same taste in trucks, it will be interesting (for me anyway, it's 4 am and I cannot sleep and I am pretty bored) to see what we have to say about cars. I would probably either pick a G35X or the new Caddy CTS.

If I could wait, I would love to get one of those Chevy Camaros thats SUPPOSED to be out the 2010 model year.

If I had to choose now it would either be a new Honda Accord, and save a few grand, or I'd blow all the 40g on the Caddy CTS.

I'm not a huge fan of American cars (other than sports cars) but that CTS is really slick.

Infiniti G35 sedan or G37 coupe. What ever fits your lifestyle better.

I've always had a bunch of crap to haul around, which has restricted me to a certain class of vehicle (truck/SUV/van). If I didn't have that as a concern, I'm kind of partial to the Subaru Legacy GT, the Dodge Charger, the new Wrangler Unlimited, and, believe it or not, the Honda Element.

I'm too rough on my vehicles to want something nice that I'd be afraid to use, so while I like the Lexus (Lexi?) and Infinities and Cadillacs and what-not, I don't think they are really the best cars for me. I also have no need for a contemporary sports car, because I have a 1965 Pontiac Tempest.

There are two cars that are completely impractical for me, yet I none-the-less lust after, although both are outside of the 40k price range: the BMW 5-Series and that Cadillac convertible that's built off the Corvette frame. One day, there will be no kids and no stuff to haul. Then I will have a really cool car. I'll also be 90.

I would have a G35 coupe with a VK56 swap. (Already considering doing the swap, but into my '79 280ZX).

Bored as well, home today just got the 4 month old down for a nap.
Living here in the Northeast, the Audi A4 wagon or a loaded Subaru Outback. The wife drives on 02 Outback and in my opinion there is no better car in the snow than the Outback

hmmm, since that price range is out of the Corvette's league, I'd have to go with a Subaru WRX STI. Probably the 2007 model because it looks like the 2008 is a wagon

We just went through this when my wife's m3 was totalled last may. We wanted to spend about the same (40k) and ended up with an Acura TL type S. Had lots of gee whiz things and the fit and finish is outstanding. We drove a new g35 sedan, audi a4, bmw 328 coupe, and the acura was a great medium. My wife was recovering from hitting a silverado that pulled out in front of here while she was doing about 50 in the m3 so comfort really played a big part. The g35 was a little harsh for her at the time, though it was our 2nd choice. The bmw was slower so we looked at the 335 coupe, but that was going to climb to $56k real fast. The a4 felt like a way overpriced jetta. The acura was quick enough, comfortable, and had the best nav and voice command system. Yes it is a slightly dated style, but she has liked them since they came out so it was still appealing enough. Plus the money we saved over getting another bmw made way for me to get a titan...if it ever comes in.

Dodge charger SRT all the way. I almost got it instead of the titan. It was actually really hard to choose between the two, but in the end Im a truck person and being cooped up in a small car with lots of blind spots just isn't what I want to live with. Awsome thread!!

I'm really likin' those new 2008 Caddy CTS's. I think you can get it AWD for under $40K. I have had around 20 different vehicles in my 27 odd years of driving and I have never owned an American car (have had a bunch of Ford trucks though). This new Caddy, outside of a Corvette is the only Detroit iron that gets me excited. I will go drive one when they show up around here.
