What is the difference between the BT and the non BT? Is there any big differences?

Thanks

Big Tow rear diff. ratio is 3.36

Non Big Tow is 2.94
Can I change my gears easily? Do I have to do anything to the tranny?

1. tow mirrors
2. Lower rear gear
3. Trans temp gauge
4. Factory install class IV hitch and all needed relays
5. Larger capacity battery...
It is not necessarily hard to change the gears, it is just hard finding all the parts to do it. I am still trying to find inner and outer pinion bearings and a new crush sleeve to finish my gear swap.

The biggest problem is getting the ring and pinion (aka gears) as Nissan doesn't sell them individually and noone makes after market ones yet.

Search first Grasshopper. There are many many threads about this with all the info you need and then some.

On my '05, I have a class 4 hitch and the needed relays already installed. I also have the gears by virtue of the OR package. (same gears, correct?) The battery's also been changed.
The only things that seem to be missing are the mirrors and the temp guage.
So can I safely tow more than the non-BT limit of 6400#?

I would think so...I'm sure the factory OR tires are fine.
Try to keep out of 5th(OD) when towing heavy or on any grades/hills...and don't be afraid of 3500-3800 rpm up the hills.

The factory OR tires are the same regardless of which tow package you have so I would say they are not any different. There are many BT OR titans out there.

Bill...
Im also in same boat OR non big tow Since they both have same rear it shouldn't matter. Just watch tranny temps. We only have the idot light not the gage.

So What do you think we should keep max lbs at?? say 7800? We are going to purchase a boat next spring (gotta be big enough to dive from) and most of what I'm seeing is about 6500-7500lbs whaddaya think 4th gear 55mph?
My trailer will only weigh 6K pounds GVW. (1600# trailer, 4300# Jeep) I should be fine.
I may look into a tranny temp gauge though, just so I can see what's happening in there.
Where/how does the OEM tranny gauge mount?
The gauge is supposedly behind the black cover in the middle of the battery, fuel and temp gauges. I have heard it is there on all of them just doesn't have the needle. Wonder if putting in a needle and taking out the cover would work.

They say 7200# for CC 4x4 non big tow and 9200# with big tow, so i'd say you are probabally ok just keep it in 4th.
^^thanks cneary

Besides the gears, you'll need to reflash the ECU and (IIRC) you lost cruise control function. Also, your speedo will be off. RB'sTitan switched his gears and I think those were his findings.

When you re-flash the ECU the cruise control will return, he didn't have cruise until the ECU flash.

Speedo shouldn't be off, if so that is more related to your tire size than anything.
