New 2017 Titan.Manual calls for Ow-40 oil I believe, and the filter I find calls for 15208-9E01A Nissan branded. Can I run, say a Motorcraft FL822 or something similar without incurring grief about breaking warranty for non-Nissan products? What about oil?Can I run say Pennzoil platinum 5W30 or do I need a 40 weight oil?I live in the jungle climate of Florida.

Run what it says to run.
I will call the service department at Nissan since the filters are listed nowhere for the 2017 models.I will also call and ask them what they fill the crankcase with as I was told 5W30 semi-synthetic by a Nissan salesman.I will run mobil1 or pennzoil platinum.I doubt they refill at the dealer with 0W40 synthetic.

I'd still run what it calls for. Our engines have scads of parts that need lubrication right now. Why chance it? Dino or synthetic is a toss up.

I have heard the argument that 40 weight is a good weight oil because of the shearing effect r/t timing chains on the VK56.I dont know If the VVEL engines requirements are different than the previous generation.Guess i'll head to BITOG. The salesman I talked to claimed to have been a mechanic in the past but of course he could be mistaken,I had hoped to get a feel for what others here were using.

My mistake:Gasoline engine models:
• Genuine “Nissan Motor Oil 0W-20 SN” is recommended.
• If the above motor oil is not available, use an equivalent motor oil that
matches the above grade and viscosity. For additional information, refer to
“Engine oil and oil filter recommendations” in this section.

The grade is important. If the oil you want to use doesn't satisfy that grade then it isn't worth even talking about viscosity.

I've been running 0w-30 in my 2007 without any issues. I do lab reports on my drained oil and they have come back very positive. I ran 0w-30 on my trip from Colorado to Long Beach, through Las Vegas where the temperature hit 112 degrees. I asked AMSOil if I should switch to something like 10w-30 for the trip and they said the 0w-30 would be find.

The 0w-20 they are requiring would give you better MPG. A lot of cars are going to that viscosity but I'm surprised to see a truck engine going to it also.

I thought the same thing. I did a double take when I looked at the owners manual. My old titan and the wifes armada take 5w-30, my new XD takes the 0w-20

Any name brand synthetic will work fine. I dont use conventional any more cause I can get Valvoline SynPower for under $2.00 a quart now.

Best deal I see is Castrol Magnetec full synthetic at 17 something a bottle/5quarts. Looking curiously at Milesyn (Miles Lubricants) SN/Dexos 0W20 sold at wallmart.com. 5 gallons 50 bucks shipped.Crazy low price, may run it (5W20) in the Ranger/Expedition.

I've been running Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Full Synthetic for as long as i've owned a truck. Used it in a F150 and a Silverado as well.

0W-20 is almost like water. LOl

I put 5 qts of 5w-20 and the other 2 as 0w-20.

In the winter, I use the recommended 0w-20 for cold start.

I got a Mobil1 1110A extended oil filter synthetic. Looked solid built, and had the synthetic fibers.
