Anyone else have a rediculous mirror whistle? I have an '08 LE 4x4 with the extendable towing mirrors and they sing at 40 MPH or more. The only thing that quiets them is electrical tape over the slots that enable the mirror arms to pivot. The dealership says that the noise is consistent with others on their lot and therefore, is just the way it is. Not a major problem as the tape lasts for a couple of months at a time and is inconspicuous due to the black mirror base. Just wondering.

I found if I adjusted the mirrors to point inward just a bit more the whistle went away. When I pulled mine out for towing my fingers were on the glass and I angled the mirror out more and the whistle started. Once I angled the mirrors in a bit more so the gap between the edge of the glass got closer to the inside of the plastic housing the whistle went away.

WOW, that was fast. I'll give that a try on the way home and let you know what I find. Thanks for your help.

I have not heard this noise on mine... but are your driving with your mirrors extended?? Both mirrors making noise ??
Maybe Test Drive with Tech ? did they order another mirror ??

It's gotta be the relationship between the glass and the housing. Kind of like a flute or whiskey jug effect.
Mine don't whistle.

Nope, the mirrors are retracted and it's only coming from the left one. I tried what QuadT suggested; pivoting the mirror in slightly, and it worked to eliminate the whistle. By pulling the mirror unit in, as though I was going to fold them, the whistling stopped. It only had to be moved 1/2" and it was gone. The tech heard the noise and concluded it was not a defect, but "just the way the mirror is", and therefore no mirror was ordered.

I tried it on the way home and it worked. Thanks for the suggestion. I only had to move the unit in approx 1/2", as though I was going to fold them in, and presto, no whistle. The wind noise is still there but can only be heard if you try. The whistling could be heard loud and clear with the window up and no stereo on. Thanks again for the tip.
