I got a 2006 Titan SE and at 21k miles, my Titan died. Before, it used to have excellent throttle response, it would downshift with the quickness and the RPMs would pick up much faster. Any ideas why this happened??? Thanks

no one has posted yet? what do you mean "died"? theres alot of things that can cause your truck to be sluggish, bad fuel, dirty throttlebody, clogged air filter, dirty/clogged fuel injectors

Before 21k miles, my truck had tons of power. When i used to floor it, it would pick up 4500 RPM and now it jus picks up to about 3000. I clean my filter every oil change (3k miles), i use 91 octane. I dont think the injectors are dirty.

why use 91 octane? truck runs on fine on 87. I use the B&G fuel treatment every 20k went I had my 02 durango, I havent put that many miles on this truck yet to use it. Loss of power is caused by bad injectors (dirty or clogged). Check you plugs or just 1 of them and see what it looks like.

The ecu unless remaped is programed to run on 87octane so I would run 87. If you have a K&N filter make sure you dont put to much oil on it because it messes with the maf sensor and will make your truck run bad. I bet that its your maf sensor that is the problem. Try to put 87 in put in stock filter or run less oil on kn filter if you have one and reset the ecu.

There are a ton of sensors and widgets that affect how the truck runs. Maf is a good start but once it is ruined with oil, it usually has to be replaced and it is not cheap. I would suggest taking it to a dealer for a code check as it should still be under warrenty. If you do have a K&N in, take it out before you bring it.

I ran 87 until I heard slight pinging under certain conditions, went to 91 and it stopped so I've been running 91 ever since. At the very least it allows the ECU to run at max advance, running 87 with slight pinging (Even pinging you can't hear with your ears) will cause timing retardation and reduced power.

As for your power loss, that's an interesting one. I'm not sure what a dirty or bad MAF has to do with the truck not downshifting like it used to. Too bad the CEL isn't on, at least then you'd know there's a code you could pull for some direction.

Good luck, let us know if you get it figured out.

EDIT: I don't know why I said 91, I've been running 89 since 87 resulted in slight pinging. Durrrr

Maybe I should trade it in for a new one.......:grunge:

i recommend you check your air filter. then add a can of BG fuel inj cleaner to the gas, use it with a half tank (can says mix w/ full tank)

lastly, i would reset your ecu, there are quite a few discussions about this, it requires perfect timing of key in the ignition, stomping on the gas pedal, etc. then just run 87 octane as suggested.

If you haven't already, post this over at CT as well and see what some other guys think.

Lower your octane to 89 and reset your ECU.

Edited above, I don't know why I said I run 91. I've been running 89 since 87 resulted in slight pingage. Too many things going on in my head yesterday. :D

A few months ago I experienced a power loss. It was raining and as I drove over some RR tracks the tires spun as it shifted into 3rd. After that the truck was stuck in 3rd. When I came to the next light the truck took off like I was going up a steep hill.It was really sluggish and when I gave it gas it would not go over 3k rpm. It acted like it does when the rev limiter kicks in. At the next light I noticed while taking off it did not shift. It was starting off in 3rd gear and stayed in 3rd.I could not even manually shift.I drove like this for about 10 mi. No lights came on when this happened.I then shut off the truck and restarted it and drives fine.It has been a little over 1500mi. and the problem never reoccurred. My buddy who owns a Dodge told me his did that when his trans overheated while towing his boat, but his cel light came on.The dealer told him when his trans overheated the truck went into limp mode. They had to reset his ecu. So i'm wondering what happened to mine? I was not towing or hauling anything.

I had that happen to my old 94 nissan altima after going through a big puddle I found out it sucked water into the intake and it mad it go into some strange mode. It was ok the next day

is it something so significant that anyone could notice it? if so, i would recommend taking it to the dealer

Just some input. This is not going to help you by any means. Just interesting.
When I was looking at used Titans I drove 2 exactly the same. Same year same options. different colors. The gray one had 30,000, and the black one, the one I bought had 20,000. I will tell you that gray one RIPPED!!!!! Mine does not seem to have the balls that gray one had.

Pedalhappy any word on what the problem is or was?

I took it in to the dealer and they hooked the the computer and ran the diagnostics and all that good s***. It took them about 3 hours to tell me that "THERE APPEARS TO BE NO PROBLEMS WITH YOUR TITAN, EVERYTHING IS RUNNING FINE." Today, however, it was in its "mood". It was running great. Whenever I floored it, it would pick up like 5k RPM with no hesitation. I guess TITANS have periods.

Yeah - sounds like when you got wheel spin going over the tracks you could've given the tranny a little bump into some sort of safe mode. Does it still do this? Have you tried the ECU reset?

I would recommend that you look at the 02 sensors and see what they are reading, Catylitic converters fail on the Titans and they choke the engine. I lost power, but it also came with a hesitation and jerk. Just a thought.
