For those of you that painted your chrome mirror caps, what procedure worked best for you, and what rattle can paint matches the closest to the oem plastic, or should I try and color match it to my truck?

I think a color match to your truck color would look best. On my last vehicle I had to do some touchups, and went down to a local O'Reilly's. They had a nifty little "paint matcher gun" they put up against my paint and then mixed a custom paint for me to use. It was a perfect match. I would strongly recommend this since it looks like you have black, and while any vehicle fades over time, black does it a little quicker. FYI, the paint was a few bucks more than a standard spray can. I think $6 or $7.
