just picked up a can of seafoam and i have a few questions. first of all, has anybody ever mixed it in with the oil? is this safe? second, which vaccume line is best to get it into the motor, if not a vaccume line, which way works best? i searched for this and couldnt find a credible poster to answer these questions. i hear this stuff works great. thanks in advance.

Brake booster line is the best way, just pull it off the master cyl with the engine running and let it get sucked in.

I suggest waiting at least 15 min after it's sucked in to restart. You will have lots of green smoke, totally normal.

Good idea to change the oil after because it gets lots of crap out of the engine.

I've used it many times in many vehicles, really good stuff. If you have a lot of miles, prepare for the possiblity of a LOT of smoke if you use it through the brake booster and shut the car off for 10-20 minutes. When you start it up, I've had some that smoked for 10 seconds or so and others that cause a neighbod down the street to come running up because he thought my old Jetta was on fire. I finally just got in and drove off because most of my street was smoky. All I could see in my rearview for many miles was a large ploom of smoke. It's now over 10 years old, over 100K miles and idles and drives like a champ.

so this is seriously safe? not going to hurt anything? i should try this in both mine and my girls car. hers always idles and runs rough, no matter what i do

yeah it is safe. the best way to do it is have someone work the throttle and keep the RPMs up while you let suck the fluid up or pour it in. just follow the instructions. there have been cases where people have hydrolocked their engines with it. they were all corvette owners for the most part. I don't know what they did wrong but it turned out bad.

I'm gonna try this on my civic as a guinnea pig :) I'll let you guys know how it works out before I risk it on the T.

Anyone try this yet? I'm at 83k miles and I'm sure the internals could use a good cleaning. I run a can through the gas from time to time but haven't tried running it through the crankcase yet.

Think I may try this today. Just need to find a place I can smoke up without attracting too much attention. :)

id like to know the same...

I have a clamp on some flexible tubing that allows me to regulate the flow. If you just put the brake vacuum tube in the container, it will suck it dry very fast and I would worry about bad things happening. I just used the clamp and kept the amount flowing to a reasonable amount. It really is not a big deal to do.

Just did mine. Lots of gray/green smoke when I got on it after first starting. It cleared out within about 30 seconds or so. Just did some spirited driving with some short WOT blasts and it cleared right up.

According to the BDGT, my idle has smoothed out just a little bit vs before. I have a road trip planned tomorrow. I'll report on whether my fuel economy improves. Throttle response does seem slightly better than before, even with the GT set for Performance.

It was EASY to do. Use a half can or less for the intake. Just pull the 90 degree fitting off the brake booster, cover half the can opening with a finger, and pour slowly. The vacuum will suck it right out as you pour slowly. You'll hear the engine choke a little bit. I actually turned my idle up as high as the BDGT would let me before doing this since I didn't have a buddy to work the throttle for me.

No DTC's showed up on the GT during or after this exercise.

Piece of cake. Now I have to do this to the girlfriend's A4 and the Malibu (ski boat) this summer. :)

I Seafoam'd my '91 Ranger (188K miles) last weekend. I put the Seafoam in a paper cup. It is easier than trying to put the vacuum line in the bottle and you also know exactly how much has been sucked into the engine. I waited until nobody was outside and did it. Of course my neighbors wife came out of the house right at that time. Huge plumes of nasty smelling smoke. I told her, "It's supposed to do that." She tartly responded through the cloud, "Sure it is."

anybody wanna make a mini DIY so ppl know exactly what to pull off and whatnot

If I get a few mins tomorrow I'll run downstairs with the camera and take a couple pics. It's really simple once you locate which hose to pull.

im sure it is simple i just like to be more than cautious then needed, i have the luck that if something is gonna go wrong its gonna happen to me, much appreciated

i ran this stuff through the titan the other day. i did 1/3 in the gas, 1/3 in the oil, and 1/3 through the brake booster. i had one puff of white smoke and that was it. my truck has about 73,000 miles or so and i have always used full synthetic oil. i could tell a small difference in throttle response and idle. on the other hand, i ran it through my 1998 cobra mustang (these cars are bad for carbon build up) using the same ammounts. there was a lot more smoke, it ran a little rough at first. once it quit smoking i could tell a huge difference. the car had a different sound, idled smoother, and felt stronger. after doing this on both vehicles i would highly recomend it, just be sure to change your oil within a few hundred miles. here is a link to the ct site with a few pics of the booster hose you will need to use.

Didn't snap any pics, but I used the same hose from the CT link. Noticed about 1 MPG gain on a drive I make lots of times. Idle has smoothed out and I've noticed better throttle response. I used to get a bit of a lag sometimes if I'd get on it fairly hard before it was warmed up to 120 or so. That's gone.

I like it. Plan to use it every 15k or so.
