I think I need new brakes, getting some jutter when stopping. Not long ago had 20" rockstars and 33" NTG's put on if this factors in brake wear. Anyway, called the stealership to get me in the ballpark for new brakes. I asked for 08 brakes and they quoted me $1700 OTD. I figured might as well go all out with AP Racing 15" rotors/blk calipers/pads and they quoted me around 3k plus i would have to pay someone to install it. Last My buddy called a friend who owns a brake shop and he said BBK's are a scheme to get more money. He said all you need is some drilled/slotted rotors and some good aftermarket pads and that will do the trick and he would do it for $600 OTD. He also mentions something about new differential with BBK's and no matter how big the caliper it can still only stop so many inches per sq. That kind of threw mw as to me a bigger caliper does mean more covered braking pressure. What do you guys think?

I don know anything about brakes. However I would think the larger the rotor is the more stopping power you have as far as weight goes.....

I'm not a brake guy either but I believe larger brake kits are made for trucks that have bigger, heavier tires. The factory setup is designed for a max 33 tire so if you are putting 35's+ you might be increasing your stopping distance.

The bigger caliper holds a bigger piston and that is where the stopping power comes from.
If you have an inside track to a guy with a brake shop, and to me it sounds like he is a straight shooter, take the truck over there and let him handle it for you.

We paid almost 600 clams for slotted front and rears and pads for Godzilla's Titan so I think the price he qutoed you is pretty darn good.

definately sounds like a good price just questioned his comment about needing a new differential when upgrading to bigger brakes and a 2 piston will stop as well as a 6. I've been talikng to our sponsor on here about the AP Racing 15" kit and he said run, run fast in regards to his comments.

Personally, I would see what a site charges for ONLY the front 08+ OEM replacement rotors and calipers and pick up some Hawk pads. I have some heavy wheels on my 08 and tow all the time...

I have 40k on the truck so I figured I'd change the pads out to save the rotors. Picked up some Hawk LTS to put all the way around from Autoanything.

When I went to change them, I was shocked that the OEM's still had roughly half the pad on them...I can guarantee that the 08+ front rotors and calipers will stop you pretty damn good and probably cost a fraction of what you're looking at...that way you'll have more money for other mods

Big brake kits are badass, if I had the cash and the right size rims id definitely get one.
why would you if you have a 2008 Titan it comes with big brake set already.....we dont have the older titans problems...so no need to upgrade unless your rolling on 40's

thats what i thought originally. would you have any idea what 08's would run and what labor should cost to install? Thx.

a ruffly cost for just the rotors brake pads for a 2008+ without the calipers would run about $280 from the Nissan Dealer. Remember you need the calipers because they wont slide in..lol my friend bought everything that comes with the 2008+ brakes for about $280 and forgot to buy the calipers so now the brake stuff is just sitting around..lol so dont forget the calipers...lol if you go that rout

Not sure man, I'd give Autozone a call, but I don't think the front calipers would be over $100 apiece, rotors maybe $120 apiece...

The rears, don't bother with because they're the same size I think.

I think I paid about $220 for the Hawk LTS pads all around.

As far as labor goes, if you're even remotely handy, they're very easy to change. Look up BlackBeauty's Frozen Rotor/Hawk Pad install thread for a great walkthrough.

You may also want to check with some of the guys on here though running the Frozen Rotors and Hawk Pads from that group buy to see how happy they are. I would still change them myself though and save the $600, that's a lot of money for a maximum 2 hour job in your driveway...

Thanks guys. I'll do some reserch on the 08 oem brakes as well as check into frozen rotors

Interested in the 08+ parts and frozen rotors...since I am rolling on 35's now. Let me know what you find out rbt if you don't mind :teethmast

I went with Frozen Rotors Slotted on all 4 corners with Hawk LTS pads.

OMG, this truck stops scary fast now.

However, the Hawk pads sure do produce a lot more dust than the stock ones.

Oh, and don't be concerned at first if it doesn't seem to stop as well as you think it should. Once the brake pad and rotor get worn in you'll notice an immediate improvement in braking.

I did all this for around $900. I would really just do the front if you're trying to save money. My 08.5 had close to 100K when I changed out the pads and the original pads on the rear were hardly worn down.
