My JBA Headers and Custom B-Pipes...

Well finally after many months of waiting for some down time to get my JBA headers installed... It has been completed, along with some brainstorming, custom pipework and a new Flowmaster 40 muffler... JBA short tubes 2.5" outlet connected to customized extended 2.5" B-pipes, consisting of 2.5" pipes extended from the headers (eliminating forward Cats) bending to the stock B-pipe location, welded on MF HF Cat #94605 (2.25" inlet/oulet), with spread in/outlet tubes to fit snug inside 2.5" pipes, leading to the O2 bung before ending at 2.5" flange. Since both OEM mainfolds had cracks, 3 out of my 4 OEM Cats were completely gone, no cat material left, just rings and crud left in the empty cat housings, I decided to replace my exhaust piping and muffler as well. Decided to run 2.5" dual pipes all the way to a customized 2.5" to 3" Y right before it enters the muffler. After everything was done and over with, fired it up, listened to the awesomeness, and cracked open some beers. Here's a few pics after I got home, since someone (wife) borrowed my digital camera from my T without telling me so no pix were captured during the tear down and install...

sound bite still to come, just got a digi-cam and still playing with it... I did manage to get my heavy 35's to chirp while shifting into second gear tonight so I know I have better HP/TQ since my mods...

It is not neccesary to move the Primary Cat from it's OEM location...

I wondered if the lights came on. if they don't come on, then they should leave you alone. YOu still have the cats on the B-pipes, so that should be good. The high idle of the engine should light off the cats fast. I have the stillen B-pipes and those cats are the high flow spiral. they have the 2- 02 bungs if you run headers. Now, with the JBA shorties, does your low end improve? or top end? any loss in the bottom? I thought of thorley long tubes because they are bolt onto my B-pipes. Do you have a pic of the JBA and custom welded pipe? a shop did the work?

Looks great!

No CEL/SES light or code... I haven't noticed any noticeable power loss in low end, but does "feel" a but lighter on takeoff, so I may have loss a bit of initial torque... I love the improved 3rd gear power though, that is the sweet gear and seems like the T just wants more and more until you hit red line... I found that there is no more struggle to get my T up over the 100 mark... did an open starightaway run two nights ago on a no-traffic section of foothill highway and hit the governer mark without feeling any engine strain, so the high end has definitely improved...

CA SMOG ISSUES: Ca Emissions Regs mandate a visual inspection as well as passing the Smog ensor system... The JBA's are currently the only aftermarket CA legal headers, comes with CARB sticker for your hood. No aftermarket Cat's are CA legal as of yet, so you will need your OEM Cats. Cat placement has to be within 1/2" OEM location, so adding elimination pipes will not be an option. 07 and later models can not eliminate secondary cats, way to overcome this is to remove the OEM B-Pipes and knock the secondary cats out... Picture #1 shows the 2.5" pipe welded to the JBA collector...

I believe so... Not only has the engine strain seemed to have lessened while accelerating to higher speeds, I can seem to hear my CAI seem to flow a lot easier as well as a lot more occasions of whistling from my throttle body spacer... (could be all in my mind though). However, I have actually been enjoying cruising around with my windows down and stereo off just to hear the entire exhaust system a lot lately...

I took my cats off when I installed my headers, and I absolutely love the way it sounds! I do the same with the radio off and windows down :) Although, my pocket is hurting a little from getting in the gas too much :teethmast . The best is dropping into 1st at a red light that goes under the freeway, and when you get under the bridge, just gunning it :teethmast

Looks good. Ahh the dreaded CA smog inspection, CA and its hard nose inspections, one of the few reasons why I won't move out there, I love my gas guzzler and the performance mods on it.

Nice setup! did it make it a lot louder? also do you have to get uprev? or the tuning work done?

It is a lot louder, but I like it and have had numerous compliments on the sound already... as well as a few complaints... while going through a drive-thru to order, the girl taking the order asked me to turn off my T cause she couldn't hear me over the exhaust in idle... As for tuning, I am currently running the BD GT however plan to go Up Rev to better tune it...

yeah i have the banks and it's pretty loud. do you know would the superchips be an ok tuner for the time being?
