Something's not right here
My 2004 Titan windshield cracked on the lower right hand side about 3 weeks after I bought her. Not a single Nissan dealership in Houston had a windshield in stock. My salesman at Sterling-Mccall said that he would try to find one for me. The next day he called and said that he'd had no luck and that they actually had two Armadas and a Titan in the back lot that they weren't able to display because because of cracked windshields. He then told me to start calling some of the larger glass shops in Houston, because a lot of times they just called them out to go and replace the windshields anyway. I finally found a company that said that they could have one in about a week or less. Six days later, they call and said that it was in and they could send an installer over to my workplace and put it in. A little later, the installer shows up and takes my keys to work on the truck. In about 5 minutes he comes back inside and lets me know that he can't do the install because he doesn't have the new molding with him. A little perturbed, I call the glass company and they tell me that they will call me back. The guy leaves and about an hour later, the glass company owner calls and apologizes for the oversight and then proceeds to tell me that the moldings are on back order from the Nissan factory. He called several sources and it looked like it would be around 8 weeks or so.
Sure enough, about 9 weeks later, the glass company calls and says that they have the windshield and molding. I reconfirm with State Farm and shazam, I've got a brand new windshield on my brand new truck!
Exactly 8 days later, while going to work at 5 a.m. - PING. Yessir, another crack appears in almost the same exact place in the lower right edge below the wiper and coming up about 4 inches and then goin to the left about another 12 inches or so. D-a-mmit! Soooo, I call State Farm and file my claim and pay another $100 deductible, and call the same glass company who comes and does the install - the next day. We're all starting to get better at this now.
Believe this or not, but 2 days later - I said TWO DAYS later... Ping! I have another small crack in the same place, but only about three inches long. A sailor would have been embarrased or at least amazed at the cussing that spewed forth! I was actually embarrassed and did not tell anyone at work or even my wife because I had been really bragging on this badass truck since I got it. By lunch time the crack had grown to around 9 inches. I did not call State Farm but instead elected to have it "repaired" on the side of the road for $29.95.
About two weeks ago, go ahead and say it - PING. Another crack pops up - this time on the drivers side, while me and my buddy were going to lunch. By the time we get to the restaurant, it had grown to the middle of the windshield. I've now got a windshield with one repaired crack on the right side and another crack on the left side - both cracks come up and then run towards the middle.
I'm waiting until I've had my Titan for a year in February before I file another claim. This $100 deductible is starting to get kind of expensive.
What gives here? Am I just one unlucky SOB when it comes to windshields or what? I've had several people tell me to file a complaint with Nissan. My brother and a friend of ours bought their Titan the same time as myself and so far neither has had any windhield breakage.
The only other problem I've had was the driver's side window getting stuck in the down position and the only way to get it back up was to turn off the ignition and then turn it back on again. I'll be taking it to the dealer next week for this and the seatbelt recall.
Can't say that I'm looking for pity or advice, just maybe your take on this and maybe even a similar occurrence so that I can justify filing a complaint with Nissan. Sorry for the long post.
