Well, I was cruising around a bit earlier today... all on asphalt, way out in the country... doing several 1000-2500RPM E-Locked launches... ;)
After several launches, which would draw the attention of anyone living within a few miles, I drove calmly back towards home... while I was in low speeds, slightly accelerating, I felt a small clunk in my driveline...
Well, I have traction bars, so I know it wasn't my tranny mount... and was concerned it may have been my rear diff so I played with the E-lock toggle on the rest of the way home... The locker engaged and disengaged without the prior clunk noise...
Determined to find out the "issue", I parked the T and crawled underneath... working my way from the front drive assy to the tranny/transfer, I didn't see anything outta wack... As I started my way back down the rear drive shaft, I noticed a crapload of oil splattered under my bed above the front U joint... Deeaamn!!! It's scattered about 1/2' each side from the U joint / Driveshaft... I touch the U joint itself and the area isn't damp with any oil or grease... in fact, the U joint's surface looked pretty rusty... I'm thinking the seals went out quite some time ago and all the recent launching may have started to stress the joint due to the lack of lubrication... I'm figuring I better order a new U joint before I snap this one and end up requiring a new Driveshaft too... Has anyone else had to replace their U Joints yet? My T just broke the 95k mark as well, so I figure I might as well check the rear U Joint and get a new one too as a preventive measure...

Pics please!

Yeah i replaced my ujoint thinking it was the solution to another problem. Once i took it out, and showing my shop teacher, he said that it only had probably 5k miles on it before it cracked or literally snapped. And that was only at 65k miles on the truck.

Pics would be sweet, but it cant hurt to change um out anyways, $14 in parts and a days worth of work? Sounds relaxing actually....

Will do... most likely plan a Sat, at my buddy's shop... Heck, I'll prob host a CVT wrench and grill get together... Then afterwards, we can go hit a few spots outside of town where there's some fun terrain... ;)

LOL @ this part! :)

I have the same old oil spray pattern around my U-joint. I think it was leaking for a short period of time, then stopped. I think it was when the truck was in an accident years ago.

Ok - doesnt look that bad...but I have to ask... Where do you get 14 dollars from? A journal kit from NISSAN is 108 bucks at courtesy...

Are you getting yours from like Rock Auto or something?

They aren't that expensive... check out RockAuto... that's where I get a lot of my OE replacement parts... ;)

Here's the splattered oily mess under my bed, above the front U Joint... with a closer look this morning, it appears two of the four joints have residual oil covering them...

mine has some grease sprayed up but no oil...dealer said it was normal of course! Anyone else have this?
 maybe a slightly bit of excess grease/oil may be thrown, but these OEM U joints are sealed, so NO, that is not "normal"... it's like the realization that oil is seeping from the rear axle hubs... NOT NORMAL, they are blown seals... if not fixed within a reasonable timeframe, preferably before your warranty runs out, you're gonna have a schitty failure and end up with an
expensive repair bill... ;)

I do but not as bad. Mine is at the pinion seal in the axle housing though...

I have a slight vibration that shows itself when I am cruising at 50mph, I thought that I needed to re-balance my old wheels, which is when I noticed it, but after installing my new rims and tires, I am still feeling the same vibration at 50mph, and felt it even more the day I put it AWD and accelerated, so I think I have to change out the front drive shaft u-joint.

Was reading through all different posts about weird vibrations and found out could be the U-Jounts. Get a weird vibration at about 35-70 and can time it about every 3 seconds. Gets extremely violent vibration when pulling trailer with 4 wheelers. Checked u-joints and all seems good no looseness and no grease. The only part I had questions on was a little clicking sound when tugging on rear of front diff drive shaft. Didn't feel loose but making a clicking sound wasn't sure if it was the bearings or gearing inside diff. Have had new suspension, alignment, and new tires installed. Cannot pinpoint problem which originally thought was trailer. Please let me know any suggestions it's driving me crazy!!!!

Did you look at your carrier bearing?

Mine looks like this & i'm having it replaced next week!

The rubber part around the bearing gets old & torn causing your DS to have more play in it. NOT GOOD! :teethmast

I bought a new replacement from courtesynissan.
