while braving the blood-red mud of the arizona strip to go camping this weekend I lost a mudflap. I never really liked them but when I saw the damage to the paint from the stupid thing chaffing at the rear edge I though I was going to throw up. Galaxy black Titan 4x4 with a white stripe on each side behind the rear wheel well from the stupid mudguards.
If I were (yes you!) I would go pull them away from the body and see if you have paint damage yet. If you don't then go ahead and pull them off because apparently they do move a little bit while you're driving around and apparently it's enough to eat your paint.

Well, the mudflaps do protect the body in back of the wheelwells from rock damage. Before I installed mine, I had alot of dirt and debris being kick up by the tires to the lower bodyside areas. With the mudflaps, the lower body areas stay mostly clean now.

Were the mudguards on your '04 factory installed? The adhesive tape used on some factory installed flaps had a tendency to separate from the body. It's probably either bad surface prep (most likely) or not enough adhesive tape on the mudflap part.

The ones I got from the dealer came with a pack of adhesive promoter. The promoter really helps to keep the 3M double-sided tape on the mudflap attached to the body.

I put some extra screws in on the bottom part of the mud flap. Kinda up under in the back of the flap on where it blends into the bottom of the fender. I also put a dab of clear caulk on too. I wouldn't have messed with it but I put on the stailess steel fender trim and I had to remove the mud flaps to do this. There were a pain in the arse to get off, good moulding tape on mine.

Are the mudflaps all the way around? If so, i would pull them all off, and go get a set of Westin nerf bars. They keep alot of the rocks from pelting the underside of the front doors, and they keep stupid people from banging them up in the parking lot. Don't know what to do about the rear though except live with the fact that you are going to end up with dings.

I have never had a problem with my flaps, thay are screwed into the fenders. While hunting when you get on main roads mud slings off hard against them, and mine have been fine.

I just mounted my 34" BFG A/T's, the frt mudflaps had to go, so then did the rear....looks way better.

I need the PRG lift ... one day while backparking in my apt complex (I always try and park in a place where I know only one side of my truck will be exposed to another vehicle - this is usually next to a curb or a painted spot - like near a handicapped spot). Well while back parking, I heard this wretched sound. I thought I had hit my rims somehow on the concrete curb. Nope - just the front left tire's mudguard. The rake effect in effect, so to speak. The mudguard was just low enough to scrape against the curb. No real damage, but annoying that the clearance was so low with the mudguards. For now, I'm leaving them on though ....

They definitely have a problem staying on the truck. I'm going back to the dealer this week to have another one replaced.
