I have an 04 nissan titan my problem is my rear brakes number one i have a leak im guessing seals number two my e-brake dosent work i checked my cable its good i checked the pads they are perfect... Oh and do the titans have e brake pads as well as the regular brake pads?????

well from my guess i know your car only uses the front ones to brake. and the back only when you hit the e-brake. so you should be fine why you get that fix.

It used to brake good and also my friends bro used it once and forgot to take the e mrake off is was squeeling but he was bumping my system and the idiot didnt hear it but after a while the e brake didnt grab anymore but the pads look good

I had a simular problem. Had a brake line leak. Check under the truck, you'll see a hose come out at an angle. It'll be directly above the drive shaft where the shaft connects to the tranny. This hose comes out of the cab and connects to a joint. From this joint comes two metal wires which go to the brake system.

Your e brake has nothing to do with the rear calipers. There is actually a drum brake inside your rear rotors that is only for your parking brake.

HUH??? Please clarify your statement. If I'm understanding you right, you couldn't be more off base!

I tried autozone and kragen even e bay and i cant find the e brake pads or shoes does anyone know if its a dealer item???
The parking brake shoes should be a dealer item. I don't think they are too expensive either. Are the rotors damaged though?

" i have a leak im guessing seals"

Do you have visible fluid leaking? If so, post a photo.

Is the brake fluid level low in the master cylinder under the hood?

Perhaps you have a rear axle seal leak that contaminated your e-brake shoes?

You have to adjust the e-brakes shoes (inside the rotor).

Like best said, the pads are NOT the e-brake.

Yes ill go take a picture of the leak and thanks guys for the help i used to work at autozone and i also have knowledge of cars ive been working on them for over 8 years im aware of the brake shoes... I just couldnt find them at any part store ... Alright ill be back with the picture of the leak ohh by the way im selling some subs for a titan look for my post...

I hate to beat an old thread, but I am having a somewhat similar issue with my 04 XE... Rear brakes are not working on it. Checked all lines, no leaks, not loosing fluid, and no contamination of gear lube from axle. I have bleed the system until I got fresh fluid coming out all 4 calipers, and no air was found in the system. I haven't been able to find an answer to this issue, and was hoping someone here might know a solution. Here are the facts below:

Brake Pedal: Spongy (Goes to the floor if slammed) and if normal stopping, goes about 3/4 way to floor and soft.
Front Brake Pads: Last about 3-4 months (average 1.5k miles per month).
Front Rotors: Constantly having to machine when changing pads, due to severe warping and pedal pulsing
Rear Brake Pads: 4 years old and no sign of wear except a few scratches, and only 12 thousands thinner than new.
Rear Rotors: Had machines but no sign of useage since last machining (going off the machine marks still visable on rotors).
E-Brake: Works fine.
Brake Lines: No apparent leaks, no air in system, and fresh fluid throughout system.

Dealer Update: Master Cylinder, Booster, and ABS system have been checked and all fine. Nissan is saying it's normal, but never heard of any vehicle never using the rear brakes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this has been going on for 3 years, and have yet to find any information on why the rear brakes are not working.

**I know the rear lines aren't clogged, as fluid comes out the bleeder valve when the brake pedal is depressed.

Pistons in calipers would have to be stuck or proportioning valve bought the farm, which is pretty unusual.
My rear pads still look like new at 50 some thousand, towing all the time. Front pads are about half gone.

I would guess a sticky caliper not being able to compress. I know for a FACT that the Titans use their rear brakes when slowing down, i used to have problems with the slide pins on the passenger side when backing up and under certain circumstances, and plus, why put brakes on the rear if they didnt do anything? Especially on a 5-6k lbs full size pickup!

I would check the guide pins and the pistons for corrosion. I replaced the pads and rotors and adjusted the parking brake shoes on my 08 LE. My truck was used with 59k when I bought it. The carfax said it was from PA. So when Started getting the ever-so-familiar "pulse" or shudder when braking, I just went ahead and changed em all out for the BrakeMotive set from ebay. When I took the OEM stuff appart, I found the guide pins on both front calipers were frozen in place with corrosion. I had use PD blast, visegips, and a hammer to get them out. had replade one of the and was able to clean and reuse the other on. If those pins are not moving the will keep you pads from contacting the rotor. And while i was checking the ebrake I found the cable had "unhooked" from the brake assy itself. Just my experiance with Titan brakes, maybe it will help. Oh a set of 2 guide pins and hardware was $5, and the rubber boots were $5 at O'reilly autoparts. I have been able to find everythin g i have needed there so far. Good luck!

I did check them last time I had the rear rotor off... Put a piece of wood in the gap without the pads, and had my wife press the pedal, and the caliper appeared to be working, but was a little rusted... Might try that out. Maybe I will just go down to AutoZone and get reman calipers and see what happens... The front is fine, they just warp really easy... Unfortunately my truck was out of warranty when they did the Service Bulletin for the brakes, so I got SOL on that one. Not even sure what they even did to the brakes... But then again, avoiding dealer like a plague, they messed up too much on my truck already.

Thanks for the advice... I think maybe next payday I will just go ahead and replace both rear calipers with reman's from AutoZone, since they are only $62 each.

I might just replace all 4... I just noticed on AutoZone's site that they have the fronts for mine (also remanufactured) for $92 each, but they have dual pistons, where as the ones on my truck only have single pistons in the front... Maybe that is what Nissan did? Anyone try swapping them out, are they straight forward or do I need to put an adapter or something on it to have the double piston calipers in the front?
