I have poured over the manuals and tested numerous wires but can't seem to find the wire that is hot when reverse is selected. Can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks

Page LT-105 is the wiring diagram for the backup lamp circuit.
If you want the 12V going to the lamp, it's the G/W wire coming out of harness C1 (at the SMJ), pin 32C.
OR
The G/W wire coming out of the backup lamp relay, pin 5, at harness connector E45, in the engine bay.
I found that diagram yesterday and searched for the wire with no luck. Maybe I am wrong, but I looked on the passenger side door sil. there were quite a few wires, but none of them worked for me. G/W would indicate "grey/white" correct? I couldnt find a grey white, or a green white for that matter. Any suggestions?
G/W means Green/White.
The E41/C1 connector is under the truck just behind the front passenger tire. There is a black plastic cover that you pull off, then you can splice right there with water-tight connectors.
I spliced into that for the parking lights. I ran the cable under the sill plate and out a hole under it. Looking under the truck, there are several holes in the rocker panel covered with round vinyl stickers, use one of them.
Thanks from me too. I was just going to start hunting for that in the manual in connection with installing a backup camera. The connection is required for a video switch box that goes under the passenger seat, so it sounds quite convenient.
There is a better way and much closer. If you open up the passenger side right kick panel there is a small connector there with three wires. One of which is a green wire with a white stripe. This is the reverse wire. without removing any other panels, you can pass the wire from your head unit and connect it.
By the way, if you look under the old head unit, you will find a wire harness with a White / Red wire on pin 24, which is the VSS wire.
