Ok, I just completed a 6" fabtech lift, Fox Coilovers, Deavers, and Bilsteins. I put on Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ's 35" tires and Moto Metal 18" Wheels. Truck Drives fine, except at 40-55 MPH, the wheel shakes back and forth. It is driving me nuts. I took the tires back and had them re-balanced, and they were fine. Wheels were aligned with the lift. Any suggestions what could be causing this???????

Might have a tire out-of-round. That's about all I can think of if it was actually balanced properly and aligned.

And, do you mean Baja ATZ? I've never heard of the ATV's before.

Yep Sammy, Baja ATZ's!! I may need to take them back and make sureThey are truely balanced correctly. Maybe I should take the rear tires and put them on the front to see what happens???
That's a possibility. I'm no expert in this field, but I'd say that's a good start. You might also consider having them rebalanced at a different place than you had them done the first time. I had trouble with some tires on my old truck and I took it to two seperate places and the second place had to totally rebalance them.

I still have the same problem with the procomp lift. I've had them balanced and rotated about 3 times now over the last 7 months at different places, but the wheel still shimmy's. It's sad but, I'm startin to get used to it.

I talked to Greg, He thinks it is the tires as well.I asked him about a steering stabilizer, and he informed me that it would not work on independant suspension. Greg will be the 1st to tell you he is not up that much on wheels and tires.

Well I was thinking more along the lines of a suspension geometry problem.

Have you guys talked to Greg, he'll probably have a much better idea of what the problem/solution is.
I brought it up a while back, but the thread kind of faded. Maybe we can get his input this time. I'll shoot him a PM, if we don’t here from him.

Dude I dont think its the wheels.
I have an 8 inch CST lift on mine with 20 inch Ice Metals wraped on 35 inch TOYO MTs and it does the same thing.
Ive taken it to 2 different lift shops and 2 different Nissan dealers all here in Southern Cal, and nobody seems to know how to fix it or should I say they say it feels normal. Ive had the wheels balanced 4 different times and had the trck aligned twice although I dont think that had anything to do with it.
If anybody finds a way to fix this please let me know.

I did have a wheel that was bent from the manufacturer and had it replaced for an extra 325 dollars because the place I bought it from did not HONOR their WARRANTY " CUSTOM MOTORSPORTS " in Riverside . This is after I installed my Lift and bought the wheels and tires from them too, but thats a different story. But even after I replaced it the steering wheel continued to shake. Its sad to say but I too am geting used to driving it that way.

I have a good backgorund on wheel and tire tech, but I claim no expertise on keeping up-to-date on all the tires and wheels in on market today. I still think its a tire/wheel problem. Put your stock wheels and tires back on and drive it, that will tell you instantly if it is infact the tires or a suspension problem. Too much positve off-set or too much caster can induce wheel shake on solid axle trucks, but it isn't a real problem with ifs trucks. My BFG m/t's would shake and I would have them rebalanced every 4 weeks (this was at about 15k miles) it drove me nuts, so I bought bfg a/t and 20+k miles later they are 100% vibration free. I have had the tread seperate on other tires (they would balance, but under load they were horrible) but that usally happens from abuse.

I think this vibration or shake from the steering wheel is from the tire size, when I changed from 33" to 35" my truck started doing it between 40 to 50 mph, after that its all smooth...

I took the truck to 3 different alignement shops and the second one and third shop after inspecting the vehicle gave a conclusion that the first place did the best possible jod with wheel balacing and alignment...

I do have 35" BFG MTs on oem 17" wheels, the woobling (How I call it) is not that bad...

After hearing you guys reply, I'm beginning to think this "Wheel Shake" is from running certain types of 35" tires. I'm still going to take it back to the tire shop and have them check each tire and switch the backs to the front. It sounds like I'm going to have to live with this for a while until the 35's wear out. Then, I think I'm going to switch to 33" tires. I'm starting to think the truck just is not made for 35" tires. My friend has 35" procomps on 17" with the Ranch lift and same components, and has no wheel shake. Very Weird.

Well heres my 2 cents.....

I have 315/70/17s on 17 x 10s and i had the same problem,,,,,The titan uses hub centric wheels,,, if your new wheels are not hub centric have the tire shop use the adaptor that bolts to the wheels via the lugs and re-balence,,,, after 3 trys we hit the nail on the head and i have no shimmy any more,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

O4drunner,

If that is it, You rock!!! I'm gonna try it out in the next few days, and let you know!!! Did your truck only do this between certain mph, and at other times it was fine?? My truck has wheel shake between 40-55mph

titan hub is roughly 77.61 or so. hub centric wheels are 78.1 which is what chevy uses. if you look at that the titan requires hub centric wheels. I would check the wheels first. try a hub centric wheel if it already is not. who ever you bought them from should have known that. If the wheel is hub centric, try the tires, check for out of round or try someone who has a ride match machine. Dont know where you are located but most discount/americas tire have them. with that machine it will help figure it out if it is a tire problem. Last would be checking all of the suspension componets for something loose or out of line. hope that helps atleast a little.

mine was worst at 45-55,,,,useing non hub cetric wheels is ok,,,,,, just make sure they are ballenced with the lug/plate fixture.........
