What he said^^^^^ it's all about torque. Not to mention, you can tune a diesel and mess with it to have far greater gains than a gasser for less money. :D

I'm pretty sure it's over 300+ hp and ~560 tq. I've read it in several places. The engine for other application should get around that hp number.

Yeah we've heard, there is another thread about it

I still haven't seen a press release from either Toyota OR Cummins wherein they verify this. I've seen stuff on blogs, automotive tabloids, periodicals and other stuff by journalists, but nothing more. Nothing from a representative of either of the companies allegedly involved in this partnership.

Yes. The towing capacity should be greater with the diesel.

So what does this mean for tow capacity? Will it be significantly better than what we have now with the Titan?
You'd have to think towing capacity will go up, yes. But keep in mind that on our current trucks we've been more limited by payload capacity than towing capacity when we go to look at travel trailers and the like. Trailer tongue weight has been our nemesis.

The Titan along with the Frontier will now have an optional Diesel motor.

Putting a diesel in a pickup truck doesn't necessarily increase the towing "capacity". That figure is based more off of the frame/chassis strength, along with brakes and suspension components.

Will it be significantly better? Probably not. Unless Nissan decides to bring their frame/suspension/brakes up to par with the current HD truck platforms. However, the truck will drink less fuel (hopefully) than its gas counterpart in the towing/hauling department. The engine will, however, make it easier to tow/haul a heavier load. Since the peak torque in a diesel engine is around the 1,600-1,800 rpm range, passing/hill climbing will be much less dramatic than it is right now.

We can only see what Nissan will bring to the plate. Until then, it's anyone's guess.....

To be fair we still don't really know if there will be a Cummings tundra. Right now it's just siteing Wards Auto. Saying that there will be. The auto guide report even says that it might just be a placeholder for a Toyota Diesel engine.

"According to an inside source". That's exactly what I mean. Not one rep from Toyota or Cummins has come forward and given a press release. Not saying it won't happen, but until someone from one of those two companies comes forward and makes a statement, it's still just a rumor.

Yes, we do know that the Titan will have the Cummins 5.0L V8. Both companies have given press releases which speak to their agreement.
