If you click on the "products" tab in the link above, it says Nissan has been making diesel engines for over 70 years.vw1972bugs said:Yup...they have been making trucks and diesels for almost 30 years now...in fact the Enduance V8 in the Titan is based upon an engine that Nissan had in one of its box trucks in Europe.
Check out http://www.nissandiesel.co.za/ to see some of the trucks they make.
Now the dealerships in the USA dealing with diesels on the other hand...well...thats a whole new ballgame...We will see.
90% of people only think that Nissan makes cars & trucks and aren't familiar with all the other non-automotive products offered. They're going to use Cummins like GM or Nissan uses Bose or Rockford Fosgate - name recognition. People recognize Cummins as a powerhouse, but thing Nissan is totally green when it comes to diesels, despite the obvious. To confirm this, just read this whole thread.HudsonValleyTitan said:I'm not sure why they don't just use one of their own diesels. Nissan has been a builder/supplier of diesel engines forever. They make fork lifts, box trucks...all kinds of equiptment. My guess is that it would be cheaper to just use an engine from Cummins.
So it will have a Mexican-made Panasonic diesel with a Cummins logo?GO_VOLS! said:They're going to use Cummins like GM or Nissan uses Bose or Rockford Fosgate - name recognition.
Right! And it'll only drive in mono mode! :jester:bestatchess said:So it will have a Mexican-made Panasonic diesel with a Cummins logo?
You're correct..... its Cummins, not Cummings.GO_VOLS! said:BTW, I'm from the south, we cut the 'G' out of our words. :upsidedow
Sorry to tell you, but the 5.9 cummins 6 cylinder puts out 325 hp and 610 ft/lbs of torque stock. You could spend less than a grand and have it putting out almost 500 hp and well over 800 ft/lbs of torque.mudslinggintitan04 said:also forgot to mention, the only prob with diesel is u loose a lot of horses, when they put a diesel in, i think it might be really hard to get it back up to the 305-335 (matters if u believe nissan them selfv's or the dyno's that were done at dealerships) horsey's it has now, unless it goes with the realllllly strong cummings (about 400 hp i believe?)
http://www-5.dodge.com/vehsuite/VehicleCompare.jsp If you click on the 5.9 engine option it will open another small window with the info. With just the banks 6 gun you should end up with 451 hp and 900 ft/lbs.mudslinggintitan04 said:huh, pretty good. my friends powerstroke 7.9 liter is only puttin out about 200 hp and he also has a banks turbo sidewinder in it?
And without a LOT of afermarket help, it still won't get out of its' own way. Stock to stock, no Diesel will keep up. No thanks, I have no need to tow over 9400 LBS, lose my hearing, or blow black smoke and smell like a NYC bus... I'll stick to a gasoline engine! But anyone out there in need of a heavy duty hauler may like it.helomech said:Sorry to tell you, but the 5.9 cummins 6 cylinder puts out 325 hp and 610 ft/lbs of torque stock. You may want to do some more research on diesel trucks, because a diesel with the banks will stomp the hell out of our titans. I love my titan but facts are facts. My friends truck with just some intake work and exhaust will out run my titan, get better fuel mileage and tow more. It isn't as much fun to drive thats one reason I didn't buy one.HudsonValleyTitan said:And without a LOT of afermarket help, it still won't get out of its' own way.
