So I go into the garage today and see all the windows of my truck rolled down but were rolled up last night. I crashed out on the couch last night and figured with the keyfob still in my pocket, that I must have rolled into a position that held the unlock button.

Still a big groggy this morning from late night at work, I try to open the door but it was locked. No big deal, just reach through the open window and hit the power unlock switch and open the door. I nearly crapped in my pants with the horn blasting, lights flashing, and I couldn't remember how to disarm the friggen alarm. I start the truck and the horn is still going, frantically remembering that the keyfob is the answer, thinking the red button would kill the alarm.

Damn it! I couldn't remember how to shut it off, so I sit there in the drivers seat, frantically paging through the index of the owners manual to find the section on the car alarm, and reading through the instructions with the alarm blaring to finally find the key to stopping the helllish begining of the day.

Lession learned. Hold down the unlock button of the keyfob and don't fall sleep with your keys in your pocket. :)

I did the same thing at the gas station. Damn horn was goign off, people were staring. You would think cranking the truck would turn it off! I was mashing buttons looking like an a$$ and finally hit the unlock button and all was well. Stupid FOB!

hahaha !!! I thats just funny I could see myself doing that:jester:

Good info -- I'll probably need that.

I haven't done the inadvertant panic button push on my Titan yet, but I had an experience with a rental car. I had parked, checked in and gone to my room. As I was getting things together I noticed a horn beeping in the lot. It went on and on -- good grief, some a$$hole should turn that thing off! Still goiing after another minute, so I look out the window and see lights flashing on the offending car. Wait -- that's a maroon car! So I started pushing buttons on the remote and finally got it off. I guess I hit the button when I took the keys out of my pocket. At least I didn't go out to the lot, so I was an anonymous a$$hole...

This same thing happened to me yesterday at my folks house.

We went to my parents to have a Bar-B-Que and after eating we played a little soccer in the backyard. After playing I squatted down to have a seat on the grass and we all heard an alarm going off (the sounding of the horn being blasted repeatedly). My dad and my wife were wondering what moron didn't know how to turn off his panic alarm. I went to the fronyard to investigate and low and behold, it was my truck...oops, my bad. First time for anything, I guess. lol

I know how to shut off the alarm, but I have done the ol' arm in the rolled down window thing. Reached for the door handle only to find out that its locked. Oh "easy button" here, stick my hand in to open it from the inside, simple enough. :eeeek: Scared the crap right out of me. My nerves were shot for the next 30 mins.

I thought the alarm was also supposed to kill the starter. It worked that way on my Maxima years ago. I'm surprised your truck started with the alarm going.

Re: Felt like an idiot xxxx ... yesterday

Dang it! I read this thread and even posted to it, and yesterday I reached in the open window, pushed the unlock button, and opened the door. What was I thinking??!!! :hat: :hat:

My boss and the CEO were standing nearby talking....

At least I remembered the solution so I could push the right button once I fumbled the keys out of my pocket. :imwithstu

it disables the starter w/ the incorrect key....

:jester: LOL!!! Good stuff! I've done that with my sister's Pathfinder and she gave me that you're an idiot look saying I should know better. Well, I would if my truck had power locks.....

I know the feeling. The other day I backed both the Titan and wife's Infiniti out of the garage so I could do some wood working. I accidently hit the panic button on one of them and the horn started. Then I dug into my pocket and pulled out the first fob I grabbed and hit the panic button on that one and sure enough I had both of them going. Talk about a cluster....

I was told as soon as the alarm activates the starter is shut down. Even with the correct key, the truck shouldn't start.

i believe it works like this....at NO time can you start the truck with a non-oem key (FYI a 'cut' key will NOT work or turn over the truck), but at ANY time a oem truck-specific key will start the truck, however the alarm is a fob issue not a key issue.

Just a follow up on this story, there have been some strange things going on around the house. I know I attributed the first to having keys in my pocket while crashed on the couch. The windows have been down two more times and as recent as this morning. I did go outside last night before going to bed (you'll understand later) and confirmed the windows were up. I placed my keys on the kitchen counter. Damned if the windows weren't open again this morning.

I know this sounds really odd and far fetched, but some recent activities such as the truck windows have my wife and I a bit spooked. Our reaction is combined from another unexplained event where twice this week, we came home to find our down stairs bathroom with it's lights on and the entire roll of toilet paper spooled to the floor. This area is closed off by a hallway door and no access without opening a door. The other odd occurance this week is that my father-in-law suffered a stroke.

I know there is a reasonable answer to all of this, but we are at a loss to explain the odd activities of this week. My wife and I are the only occupants of our home, no one has keys to the home, and if this continues I am going to set up some cameras to get to the bottom of this weirdness.

On the window question, does the key fob use bluetooth frequencies to activate the door locks and windows? I wonder if my laptop with bluetooth might factor in to this equation?

These are pic's that I took on the second instance of the bathroom weirdness.

i think its RF....bluetooth would cost too much $

Well, bluetooth is an RF frequency range between 2.402 and 2.480 GHz and that shouldn't make much of a difference in cost. The good news is the windows were up this morning and no other "weirdness" has been noticed.
