Towing subaru out of ditch today (snowy, icy roads) with a tow strap. Heard a loud bang (like the tow strap had broken). Dash lite up like a christmas tree. Truck was in 4 low, but no power to front wheels. Have off roaded, towed stuff out of ditches before living in alaska with all sorts of trucks. IMHO it failed WAAYYYY to easy. NEVER had a failure like this before so easy on any truck Ive owned. :eek_surprise:
Had to have truck towed into dealership. Got a call a few hours later that the front diff was toast. Will find out monday when a replacement will arrive.
2018 non XD, Pro4x. 3500 miles. Factory icon lift.

Am I the first to report front diff failure on the new titan???

Yes they ordered the "whole assembly" to replace it (not rebuilding it). Im not sure about the CV axles on the ends though to the wheels.

Nope, I was towing forward. Strap connected to trailer hitch. Given the Road conditions, position of cars in ditch, this was the only option for how to yank the car.
I could of easily pulled forward and out (see pic) if I could of been in 4x4.

Mine failed on my 2010 at about 35K, replaced under warranty, been fine ever since.

It shouldnt of failed in this situation. period... I am pretty pissed.
Planning on chatting with the tech next week to find out what part failed.
Initially he said sounds like might be the Tcase (before he saw the truck). He mentioned they have had several 17/18 titan t case failures. :eek_surprise:

Sh!t happens, thats why you have a 100k warranty, failures of different sorts happen on all new vehicles.

Agree...... but if this breaks so easy what if your in the middle of nowhere and counting on simple 4x4 to get you out....?

When you get it back I would find the heaviest trailer you can find within your weight limit and pull it hard in 4Lo in straight line. See if you can kill the diff again.

And... what I’m trying to reenact the Toyota Tundra towing the space shuttle commercial...

The non XD Titans are still using a Dana axle, from what I understand. Only the XD gets to use the American Axle part.

If I were Nissan, I'd have ditched Dana in the '16 redesign.
NonXD are using an AAM as well (at least for the rear) it's a 9.5" almost identical externally to the 2014+ GMC 9.5"
