Hey Clint - I think I've answered this one for you before. :D

I'm in South Jersey. Camden County...
I have a short memory :D . Thanks for replying a second time. Maybe I'll see you at the next meet in South Jersey. I forget the dealership but it was last May.

I'm not a JVC fan at ALL, but thats a clean looking install for the titan and awesome install work with the Ipod adapter. I especialy like where you located it because it is hidden. I do like the looks of that HU and the price!

I didn't use a kit. The factory mounting ears should come off the factory HU and attach to the new one. I bought the XE bezel from a dealer online (can't remember the name at the moment, but there are links here on TT if you search for it). The wiring harness and PAC SWI-ALP came from Crutchfield.

Good luck!

No problem. :D Maybe I will see you at this year's meet - I didn't even know there was one in SJ (bought mine in April, so maybe it was just too soon). If you think of it, send me a PM...

Thanks! This thing really needs speakers now. The factory 2ohm set is dying a slow death...starting to flatten out to the point that it's noticeably muddy depending on the tune. I'm also looking to have tech12volt build me a new sub box, but I need to save some $$$.

Question for TMonte,
Did you notice any FM signal strength loss with the JVC? I am considering the same unit and I was wondering if you compare the stock radio to the JVC is reception the same better or worse. I work in Jersey but I live in Pennsylvania
and up in PA radio reception sucks but for some reason the stock radio gets all the stations I listen to eg. 105.5, Z100, 104. This would be the deciding factor whether or not I will buy one. Oh and by the way the unit looks great.

No, I've not noticed a problem at all, but I live 10 miles east of Philadelphia in NJ, and work about 15 miles west of the city in PA (as the crow flies). The few stations I actually do listen to (I'm an iPod freak) have absurdly strong transmitters that almost reach the Jersey shore (about 50 miles away). I've never had a problem with FM or AM signals in my immediate area.

I really don't think you'd have a problem...but of course YMMV. ;)

I have an 04 SE with a 6 disk changer. I am going to buy the JVC - looks great!!! Question - how did you not need to buy an install kit? How did you match the color of the dashboard? Thanks
Read my post above from Feb 2 @ 9:01AM - the short answer is you reuse the factory unit's mounting ears and a factory bezel for a Titan XE, which is roughly a standard double-din opening. The color matches because it's the exact same material! :D

Good luck with your install...

2 questions, Stock steering wheel controls still work? And how much is the factory bezel piece?

very nice
and ditto to the question about the stock steering wheel controls.
Yes, the stock controls work. I used a PAC SWI-ALP, which ties into the factory control harness and then plugs into the wired remote port of the aftermarket HU. This adapter was designed for Alpine head units, but works with JVC and I think Kenwood (or some other brand I can't recall). For the Titan, you have to solder resistors inline and tap into two wires from the factory control harness. Including prep time, it took me about 35-40 minutes to wire it in, and maybe another 5 to get the adapter programmed for the desired actions. Performance isn't quite as good as the stock head unit because there's a slight delay, which requires you to stay on the buttons for a fraction of a second longer than stock, but you get used to it. The installation sounds like a daunting task, but it really isn't that difficult. Planning is key as with anything else... ;)

Edit: I should mention I did not solder directly into the factory harness. I soldered the resistors to two "jumper" wires, and then tapped them into the factory harness using vampire tap style connectors. That way, if I want to return it to stock, I just pull the taps and wrap a thin piece of electrical tape around the slits in the insulation cut by the tap contacts.

I paid about $65 for the factory bezel back in August. I've read that others have found them around $40. I don't have a link or PN handy, but if you search this forum, you'll find it.

Looks great!

Wow that does look sick.... i like my RF unit, and just purchased some subs, but that def looks killer....

I think i am still going to hold out to build a carputer... but that looks awesome!!

I may have to weigh my options, GPS would be a nice touch to the setup though, but for the cost it looks like a nice system.

I know this post is from 7 years ago but i purchased the same radio and i can't get it to mount anywhere nearly as flush as you did. any tips? it seems that the wires from my amp are pushing against the dash support to it sticks out over a half an inch. i'd really like it to look cleaner if possible and any tips would be appreciated. thanks in advance.
