I'm almost at 200,000 miles and this is my first Nissan. If I didn't like the truck so much I would just try to find another one with leather seats and less miles. I came from a 2017 GMC Sierra SLT but as soon as I found out about the AFM/DOD i sold it and bought the 15 Titan Pro 4x. Unfortunately the original owner didn't believe in maintenance so the oil was changed at 10,000 mile intervals and I changed all the fluids and spark plugs as soon as I could and they all needed to be changed. In spite of that I still like the truck a lot I just don't know if the engine and transmission change can be justified. Thanks

So you want to fix it and it ain't broke?
It's giving me the code for catalytic converters not functioning at the right level so I would imagine I need to address that before it becomes a problem. The transmission is acting up with random issues and it slips occasionally. I did get a trans cooler and installed it in front of my radiator .

A better option would be to get some assessment data. How about submitting oil and ATF samples to a lab like Blackstone and pay for a used oil analysis of both?
I will get the oil and atf checked not sure how fast they are but I think that would be a good way to find out how things are actually working. I'm retired so not many miles going on right now. I want to go somewhere warm for a month or so and would like to get this sorted first.

You're going to need to address the cats (and the cracked manifolds that caused them) ASAP. Beyond that, if all eight cylinders have good compression, and your trans fluid doesn't have coolant, I'd start by having a trans shop check your trans for any issues. When you installed the trans cooler, did you also bypass the lower radiator tank? If you had coolant contamination you may can try pulling the valve body and soaking it in trans fluid (change it every day or two) to get the coolant out. Soak it until you're not getting any funky stuff on top of the trans fluid immersion. But that's only if you had coolant contamination in your trans fluid.

As a fellow retiree with an '08 Titan SE LWB, I understand your need to get your truck sorted as efficiently as possible. A UOA might be one non-invasive and easy way to get a reading on your VK56DE, and I'd contact Blackstone to ask about an expedited test. Not sure where you are located, but if you're anywhere near the Midwest, you may be in luck:

Yes by-passing the radiator was the reason I did it as like most of you I tend to over analyze everything. The internet can be a good thing I guess but I spend way to much time trying to find information that I ignore if it's not what I want to hear. Thanks for the cat problem update , I was aware that somehow when the cats go bad dust or something goes back into the engine and damages the cylinders, is that correct? I know it has to be dealt with though was what I was told. Can I run legally with 2 catalectic convertors? or do I need 4 ? I was thinking the Cajun people have loads of Titan parts, tunes, info for people like me that would like a little more power.

Right now I need a new CV joint on the drivers side (deer) , break pads/rotors all around , Serpentine belt , have rear shocks (rough Country) and working on installing them (bottom bolts out but can't get the spare tire dropped yet) , My truck didn't have a jack or the handle to let the spare tire down when I got it , and the short headers , B pipes with cats , up-rev tune. If I install it all myself I figure about $3000.00 in parts. I hit the deer in July and didn't have comp or collision on the truck so I paid to get the bumper and drivers side headlight and parts replaced and painted it was around $6500 That is why I'm not sure if I want to keep dumping money into it or just get a newer or lower mileage Titan.

My '05 LE is still going strong at 325,000 hard miles. I replaced the valve covers because of weeping, the gaskets along the exhaust port side were hard as a rock from the heat. I went ahead and replaced the valve covers because the PCV duct work in them can get clogged with sludge from too long between oil changes, but mine turned out were fine. Besides the cracked exhaust manifolds the only other chronic problem was the rubber ATF hoses, everyone burst on me sooner or later. Finally replaced them all with braided stainless hose from the Harley.

Well after a brake job and new CV joints I "sold" (should really be gave away) the 2015 Titan and will be getting a new truck in January. Now I need to know if I should go for another 1st gen. I know the problems and like the look of the truck a little better, but won't make that the deciding factor. I already found one with leather heated seats and just over 100k miles. The prices are falling as far as I can tell, so maybe waiting a while will be a good thing. I have a 2015 Buick Enclave with under 40,000 miles to drive for now, and it's making me regret selling. I will definitely be going over the car fax and getting a truck that was taken care of this time, as I can see what 10k mile oil changes and a lack of everything else will do to a truck.

By the way, thanks for all the help on here. Things are changing fast, and I don't like where we may be heading. I at least see good people here, and it gives me a little hope for the future. My next project after the truck is finding a place out of Minnesota to move to, as the redecorating really messed it up. I get the anger I get the way people think and react, but this is a whole new level of bad. No one here is looking for a solution, just more bad ideas, and if you like to read, you know how this story ends. This isn't about either party, and I'm not on a side here, I'm just not staying in a place you will go to jail if you defend yourself.

I’d go for another 1st generation if you could find a nice one, maybe one that’s already had the manifold and axle issues resolved
