Thank you to all of you that helped through this process. Taking direction from all of you helped me learn about my Titan just that much more. I'm not on the level of knowledge as I am with TDi VW's or the years spent building and breaking my old Toyota's. But, I'm well on my way. Now to source a replacement engine for the future and do a full tear down and rebuild to get familiar with our power plants. Also, to have a heart ready to go for the day the existing one gives out. I have no clue what kind of torture its been through. haha

Huge shout out to Jeff( @nightowl ) out at CajunBpipes. I made the call and he had them welded up and ready within just a couple days of the call. Was always there to answer some hair brain question of mine. Thank you brother. They look amazing.
Just a quick note to add to your idea of rebuilding a VK. As a Nissan racer who's been rebuilding and modifying engines for decades now, there's been a change in manufacturing that you should keep in mind. With more current engines, like the VQ line, the tolerances have become so tight that disassembly may actually break certain parts and cause problems with rebuilding. I've never rebuilt the VK56DE in my tow rig, but knowing how much a PITA it is, I plan to keep it running until the truck is no longer functional. If the engine really does go, I'd consider a rebuilt shortblack by a pro outfit do the heavy lifting before I consider doing it myself. Good luck in whatever you do, and I hope you consider writing another thread about what you find if you decide to rebuild yourself.

The weather finally broke here in Washington State long enough for me to finish up the job. If it wasn't in the mid to high 20's, it was in the mid 30's and raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock. Either way, It's made me want that house with a shop just that much more.

Well then, to the final post...for now. Wrestled the Cajun Shorties into submission after 2, 5-hour days. There was a few learning curves to be had.

For instance, ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, if you loosen the 3 17mm isolator bolts, and then remove the 4 14mm engine mounting plate bolts, TIGHTEN THE TOPSIDE, BACK(furthest one from the grill) 17MM BOLT FIRST! Because, once you lower the engine back down, the #6 cylinder pipe WILL NOT allow you to get to it.

DRIVERSIDE, Have fun with all the bullshit that's in the way and I HOPE you have smaller arms and hands than my boulder of a body. Same goes for your isolator bolts on this side. But if you forget, you can still access both top 17mm bolts with the engine resting at normal height.

FINAL POINT, and I mean this is very important. I would hope people have more common sense than what my buddy had. Loosen the engine mounts and isolators ONE side at a time! As I was taking the 4 14mm bolts out of the mounting plate, the engine shifted and my bowels made a shift right with it. I looked over and he was on the second to last 14mm bolt. And lastly, minus the 8 manifold nuts, USE ANTI SIEZE! haha I galled one of the fasteners that came with the kit for the Cat-Bpipe flange. Had to zip disk it off.

As of today after the relearning, I'm getting the normal 13.4mpg. VAST improvement over the 3.7mpg it was getting when I bought it in Sept. Going 5mo without driving a truck/vehicle you've just bought is a bit of a sore spot.

Again, Thank you to everyone here on the forum for the guidance and not roasting the hell out of me when it came to my FNG questions.

See you all later,
Roky

Just took a 580mi round trip to the west side of Washington state. Drove I-84 mostly, 65-75 mph, and netted a respectable 16.6mpg. A huge increase from the original 3mpg. lol
As long as you keep rolling you’ll get pretty good mileage.I experienced the same thing on a trip from Michigan to Seattle along US2.It’s the stop and go that kills the mileage

That's a hell of a drive. I previously drove back and forth between Minot and Williston, ND. It was always rough. that highway is WAY too straight for far too long.

Yall wouldn't make it here in texas

Buseman, you are a hundred percent correct. I'm not a fan of flatness. West TX, I kinda could get along with. But, I'm not a fan of flat, vast expanses of land. I grew up with Mt. St. Helens in my backyard. I now live in Central Washington....I'm not a fan of the high desert. It's brown, browner and dead. No trees unless its planted by human. and those are only in towns/cities and the huge orchards. I'm ready to live on the westside of the cascades again. I'll deal with the BS California, Portland Oregon and Seattle pressure upon the communities up and down the I-5 corridor. haha

Yeah, thats the bummer about west and south texas. Its all flat and brown almost all year long.

Central, east, and north texas are green and hilly though. Same long drives, too

Its supposed to be 82 or something for christmas eve tomorrow. Its like 78 today. Thats one good thing though. I hate cold weather

Yeah, it's suppose to be 34F tomorrow and raining. meh. western washington...what can you really ask for this time of year. haha

I have looked High and Low for someone else having the same issues as I. I haven't found anything across all forums, FB groups and good ol' Youtubes.

So, I have a new to me 06 CC 2WD with 220k on the clock. This truck has stock size tires and stock wheels, i believe its a little lowered compared to stock height. Beyond that...it has after market headlights taillights and remote trans cooler.

Ok, here's the issue. I'm getting 3.71/mpg. Not a single light on the dash. Sits at 2k RPMS on the freeway at 70ish mph.
WHERE THE HELL should I start looking? If the Cats were screwed or cracks in the exhaust manifold.....it should trip a code. But alas.....No codes. I'm at a loss of trying to figure this out. I wish i had 12mpg at this point.
I had the same issue with my 2006 I changed the fuel pump and o2 sensors. It fixed my issue.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong please. If I had a leak before the O2 sensors, youldnt that piss them off and kick a code? Everything else, I'll get on that tomorrow. Do you guys have the most problematic spots for big vacuum leaks? As far as performance, as of now, the damn thing boogies for a full size truck. Thank you for the info and I'll keep yall posted.
Try cold air intake?

Driving from Colorado through west or south Texas in winter can also mean driving through those hellacious dust storms. That happened earlier this year, and my Titan was fortunate to miss some twisters as I drove across the panhandle. Give me the cold and snow of home versus the wind, dust and destruction I seem to run into on those long stretches.

BTW- my first gen KC LWB Titan barely averaged 12.6 MPG on that last trip from Colorado to Louisiana, and wonder what most second gen Titan owners are seeing in variable conditions. I was hoping the direct injected VK56VE would result in dramatically improved fuel economy over my "old" VK56DE, but what I seem to be reading here is problems with #7 piston scuffing, and only marginal increases on regular unleaded. I'd love to hear some feedback from Titan owners who've owned both first and second gen trucks. Am I wrong?

What speed are you driving? I get 14mpg at about 82ish across the usa

Yeah. I understand
Thanks, on the one segment where it wasn't blowing, I think the MPG was about 14. But the other segments pulled that down to the lower number. Still, compared to the port FI of my DE, I still wonder if DFI makes any real difference. I've read about some models of other makes getting increases in power or efficiency but haven't heard much about Nissan.

The wind is terrible. Driving to brownsville this afternoon, we got 15 at 80 because the wind was behind us. I bet when we head home that the wind will be in front and i will get 12.

I think direct injection is great for diesel engines. But everything else, i think its going to end up being one low spots in spark ignition engine history.
