Hello,

I have a 2020 titan with 60,000 miles. I called my dealer the other day to schedule front&rear diff fluid and transfer case fluid change.
One of the service advisors told me that I don't have to change transfer case fluid since I had done tranny fluid flush at 48,000 miles. He said they share the same oil.. but Aren't they two different systems?? He also advised that I should do coolant flush even though I told him that per owner's manual, Coolant should be good for 105,000 miles but he insisted that his shop manual says it should be replaced every 30,000 miles..

My questions are:

1. Should I request a transfer case fluid change?
2. Should I let them do coolant flush? The coolant color is still blue and it's perfectly leveled.
3. Should I find a new dealer...?!

Thanks guys,

1. you can change the diff fluid your self in about 6.8 minutes. Don't pay the dealership to do it. I personally use redline fluids in my diffs. I had great results with their MT fluid in my Z, so I use them in diffs now as well as transaxle in my VW.
2. I can't speak on the second gen, but I know on the first gen the trans and T/C use the same type of fluid in the xterra, but do not share fluid, I woudl guess titan is same? I use valvoline maxlife ATF in the xterra
3. probably.
4. anti-freeze.. meh, guess it depends. I'm pretty sure my '12 xterra still has the same original fluid in it... but it's only 135k miles. I probably SHOULD do it. and clean all the mud and junk out of my radiator. meh I will one day.

On Gen1 Titans, the fluid is not the same. The trans uses Matic-S (early ones used -J but that was superseded by -S) and the transfer case uses Matic-D, I believe.

Your coolant is fine till 5yrs 105k.

I would recommend replacing the transfer case fluid. It is not shared with the tranny fluid.

Use only Nissan D3M fluid in transfer case which is not the same as Nissan Matic D fluid…

As I said, the Gen1 uses Matic-D. But thanks for clarifying so nobody with a Gen2 follows that regimen.

Thanks guys. I will request the transfer case fluid change with D3M. I'm pretty sure they didn't change it the last time since they think transmission and transfer case share the same fluid..

As Kenedy said, please run from that dealer. They do not share the same fluid. Also, please look into doing these items yourself. When done by the owner, they are quick, cheap and effective ways of prolonging your truck without having the hassle (not to mention doubts on whether it was done correctly) in dealing with the dealership. Plenty of resources on this website and throughout the web. Goodluck.

Can you tell me how much you were charged for the transmission flush? Trying to decide if I want to do it myself or pay them to do it. Thanks!
