So I bought an 04 titan about a month ago. :)
190k. It was for sale because they were moving and didn't need it anymore... It needed a tailgate handle, center crash sensor, oil never leaked until the last time she took it in to get it changed (and that was going to be fixed before I got it) and a tool box on the side which she is giving me...
I took it in to get it inspected and it failed, it needed a vent control valve, and a wheel bearing.
So I bought them, while replacing them we noticed the the upper ball joint was totally wasted... so I got that too...
Then we fixed the exhaust (that wasn't supposed to leak)
Then noticed there was a heck of a puddle of oil... it looks like it's coming from the oil cooler or a hose.. so it wasn't fixed... (is there a way to bypass this???)
Then I bought the tailgate handle.. looks and works great, I bought remote key fobs... they work great, then I bought a new washer nozzle, once again great!
So I was waiting for the SES light to turn off... and it didn't, so I unplugged the battery.. and it turned on again! So we checked the code... Same one 447, so I was reading what to try now, currently trying the cap clicked 3 times..
Then I'm driving home from work tonight and wow loud noises... pretty sure my rear diff just died! There's oil all over the place back there... it's coming from where the shaft going towards the front from the pumpkin has like a flare... So I'm trying to read about the cheapest way to fix this, and the 447!
Any advice would be great... I really like my titan... but I don't want to go broke :( also if anyone knows other than 130 to the dealer, where to get the center crash sensor...
other wise there might be a titan for sale :(

sucks that your first Titan experience had to be this....Hope it all works out.

Oil cooler o-ring is a common failure, it's about as hard to do as an oil filter change, and cost about $4. A search on here will reveal the part number and procedure.
I just bought an 04 with 157k, had to do the oil cooler o-ring, brakes all around, parking brakes and a rear axle shaft oil seal... good to go, now.

Thanks guys and gals!!!
My mechanic friend came over today and I think i got lucky!!! he wiggled the drive shaft and it fell off! the nut somehow came undone! So I'm gonna pick up oil, a gasket, the seal and a new nut... And a o ring for the cooler (thanks firetruck41) and put it all back together on Thursday! ... I hope it works :)

Then all that's left is trying to get it to pass inspection... I replaced the vapor canister vent valve, but it's still throwing code 447, someone told me to take it in to have a smoke test done. Have any of you done this? Also when I fill it with gas it never goes all the way full... could this be related??? Thanks in advance!

Are you talking about the gas gauge never going to the "full" line? There is a recall on the gauge issue. Forget the correct name for the recall. I had mine on my 06 replaced. I'd take it to the dealer and let them do any/all recall work that hasn't been done.

Sorry your '04 has so many problems.

You will grow to love your T very much once your problems are ironed out here in the beginning.

ECM Code P0447 points directly to the Vent Control Valve, which you took care of. Have you tried to clear the code after it was replaced?

Maybe if you perform the ECM reset procedure, the SES light will go away. Its worth a shot.

Also, I second djc1977: LETS SEE SOME PICS! :)

obxnorth12 after I replaced the valve I tried the reset, and the light wouldn't go off... So I unplugged the battery and left it unplugged over night. The next day the code was off.. it stayed off for about 30 miles, then came right back. It's the same code 447. Do you think maybe it just didn't reset? Another thing I was wondering... The rear seal blew and there's diff oil everywhere... do you think that could be blocking the air flow and maybe causing the code??? I'll add a pic of what that box looks like near the valve.
djc1977, I read about the fuel gauge not filling... it takes it up almost to the full line, and it's at the normal speed. I've never had it spill anywhere. One time I kept putting gas in a few extra clicks... and I smelled gas after leaving the station... But it didn't leak onto the ground well filling...
Oh and I finally added some pics!!!

Tonight we got the titan back together, then when the guys left I went to take it for a ride... only the battery died... so charger it is lol! Maybe tomorrow I'll test it out!

I would certainly try degreasing that vent box in your pic. Gear lube from the blown seal probably plugged that vent up, causing the computer to throw the code again. Since you let it sit all night long with no battery, and the light was off for a while before returning, I would try that first. If the computer didnt reset, that light would have returned the moment you started it up after re-connecting the battery.

As far as your dead battery is concerned, I hope a new one fixes that. I would hate to see you do an alternator as well, seeing all of the problems you have had already.

I hope your spending spree comes to a close soon Danielle. Its time for the fun stuff, like intake, programmer, exhaust, etc. Enough with the maintenance. ;)
