I’ve owned many trucks but never a Nissan, Titan or Nissan anything. This truck is a 1-owner Fleet truck that has been taken out of fleet service recently.
5.6L gas 4x4 SV. With blind spot monitoring, reverse cam, front/rear parking sensors, dual zone climate control, paint matched bumpers with fog lights. A pretty heavily Optioned SV trim.
I am absolutely Astonished that someone put 252,000 miles on a truck that less than 5-years old.
Listed price is $9500 bucks. Should I buy it? OR would any of you consider buying it with that high of miles.
I need to make a decision within the next 48 hours.

That's a lot of miles for anything. That said, if you are willing to put money into systems and components that are at the end of their service life you could have a bargain. You will, however, find it more difficult to sell later based on the very high mileage, and will likely need to be cash buyers.

That's a ton of miles. Figure within another 50k you're very likely to need a transmission and/or a motor, as well as having tons of small parts break (switches, plastic interior, brake hardware, HVAC, etc.). If the truck would be a good value at the purchase price plus $6-8k in repairs over the coming 2-3 years, then it might be a good buy. But you're going to want to have money set aside for a motor and trans plus other stuff - especially if you're going to be borrowing to buy this thing.

Thanks for the fast reply’s! I am trying to talk myself Out of buying the truck but the price is so low for what it is. The biggest hurdle is the Location, the truck is 2,540 miles away from me on the opposite side of the U.S. I’d have to spend $1500 minimum to get it home. The cost to ship it or fly out an drive it back make the cheap price not so cheap for me. Any other feedback is appreciated

While it may not be really accurate because there may not be a ton of similar vehicles in circulation, kbb for this vehicle has about $7700 trade in value. ($6000-$9500).

If it's taken out of fleet use, it may be because it's just got nothing left to give. It was out of warranty a long time ago.

I'd ask to look at the interior. I almost bought a fleet ranger for about $1500, was a decently low mileage truck (under 60k I believe) and the body was straight. What turned me away was apparently the guy that was assigned the truck was a nasty ****. He used chewing tobacco and didn't believe in spitting out the window or at least into an empty coke can, as he used the truck, the footwells of the truck were covered in nasty chewing tobacco spit. It made the interior look like Neapolitan ice cream without the strawberry.

Having said that, if the interior on this one looks great, figure $9500 plus at the most $5000 for a crate engine, that's $14,500 for a 2017 with a NEW engine (less labor costs of course). ATK Engines 348A: Remanufactured Crate Engine for 2007-2010 Nissan & Infinity with 5.6L V8 VK56DE - JEGS High Performance If the interior is great, a new engine and you'll have a badass deal, IMO. Keep in mind that the tranny might need some work, but sounds like highway miles IMO.

That engine linked above is closer to $6k than five, and isn't a correct replacement anyway. A quick search says you're looking for a used engine for the 2017 or you're paying well over $5k if you can find a reman. While you're in there, go ahead and pay for the trans and swap out the pair. A new motor is likely to toast a trans with 250+ on it in relatively few miles.

In all seriousness, if you're 2500mi away from this truck, youre better off skipping it altogether, as you will be pissed every time you see a ding, broken switch, or whatever, which you'd have seen if you were checking out a local truck. This has bad deal written all over it.

Yeah, but that cost for the engine is out of pocket, and does not raise the value of it to the amount of investment.
...and you still have a truck with 250k miles on it if you ever need to sell it.

But my point is that the engine and transmission are the biggest items that saw wear, and if you can replace those at a reasonable cost, then it might be worth exploring. Remember that the rest of the truck is still 5 years old. It's definitely one of those is the risk worth the reward. I will concede that given the low price that the seller put on the truck, it does raise red flags, question is do you think you can invest a little and have a solid truck for the money.

Yeah - and that's the root of my caution above. If this were a local truck I could inspect and have my local mechanic inspect, ID consider it, and do a lot of worst-case math to get me to a decision. But 2500mi away, buying sight-unseen? Not just no but heck no.

It could be a good deal. But it could be junk. And from 2500mi away, it's impossible to tell. And that's coming from a guy who bought a 2008 Supra wakeboat over the internet three years ago, sight-unseen, from 700+ miles away, and feels like he got a good deal on it, so I have some frame of reference for long distance deals like this.

For my reference, it was the 06 that I bought 2 years ago. That thing had 240K miles on it, and I bought it for about $1900. The engine was probably the one thing that convinced me to consider Nissan when I went to look for a new truck. But yeah, I understand the "sight unseen". Would be curious to see who's offering the OP this deal. If it's a family member or friend that has an inside track on the vehicle, definitely be something worth considering. The Ford Ranger that I almost bought, it was being sold by a transmission shop. They did work for companies that had utility vehicles, and when the trucks would take a dump, the companies would give vehicles near end of service life to the transmission shop, who'd fix it, and then turn around and sell it.

Here are all the pictures I currently have. If I’m being honest I am Very tempted to buy this truck based off how clean the interior looks but man can picture’s be mis-leading. An the truck is Crazy far away. I’d have to put a deposit on it, sight unseen.

Definitely looks clean. I'd be tempted to have a local mechanic go inspect it for you, but then you run the risk of him telling you it's in need of repairs so he can swoop in and buy it out from under you. Have you asked them to "show you the Carfax"? Granted, the Carfax won't show you everything, but if they won't offer it to you free of charge, they might be hiding something. Good luck with your decision.

i don't know why 250-300k is a killer on miles. nissans last a long time and people have more than that on the first gens so i don't know why this engine wouldn't last that long.

that truck has to built in brake controller too so once you get that terrible camper off the back, that could be an awesome truck. long bed, tow kit, looks good, i would have a hard time saying no for that price. even if the engine is scuffed in the number 7 cylinder, people still drove theirs that way with no trouble and since this was a fleet vehicle, it probably already had the engine repaired or replaced.

if i was looking for a truck, i would have a hard time passing on that one

If you can do your own wrenching and can negotiate another $1000 or so off, it's not a bad buy. Mileage is one thing, but age is also a big factor in the way a vehicle wears. That's clearly reflected in the condition of the interior. 250k on a properly maintained engine doesn't mean you need to replace it... pay a few hundred for a pre-purchase inspection and ask them to check for oil leaks and shine a flash light through the oil filler to see if there's any heavy varnish on the head. If it's clean, that's a good indicator that they performed regular oil changes. Spend $1000 or so to perform all the standard maintenance and you have yourself a good, inexpensive pickup truck in an otherwise insanely expensive vehicle market.

It could be a great deal…. but my hang up would be “fleet vehicle” status, especially if it was truly a fleet vehicle that was driven by multiple people instead of assigned to one driver. I’ve seen how people treat vehicles that are company owned.

That doesn’t mean it’s a bad vehicle or been run into the ground, but it’s way more likely to have lived a hard 250,000 miles than a private owner vehicle. Just something else to consider.

Let us know what you decide.

Hi Eric,
I would like to just put a positive spin on your potwntial purchase. I owned a 2007 Titan for 10 years and traded it in at 185k miles for a 2017. Yea, your mileage
might be high but I would take either the 2007 or 2017 back in a heartbeat. I just purchased a 2021 Pro4X and love it but this go green gas pedal delay thing has got me really missing my old trucks!! You can't go wrong with an older model Titan!!

Why so few pictures and none of the odometer or all sides of the vehicle?

My scam antennae are up since they’re requesting a deposit and giving you 48 hours. It’s a nice idea but not worth the risk owing to distance and mileage.

Hell they could jack up the price with bogus fees knowing you bought a one way ticket.

That begs another question… you’re going drive it home or do you own a flatbed?

My brothers Titan first generation he kept to a little over 320,000 miles with only one problem...he replaced an alternator...that was it.

So I did a similar scenario to this. I drove to buy my 06 and it wasnt distance far but it was time wise with traffic because of it being around DC. I asked the owner if I would pay for it to be inspected by a shop, I actually paid for three. One was Firestone complete auto care, another was midas, and the last was a Nissan dealer. These were close to him. But all gave a little bit different answers and cost no more than $150, for the most expensive. In the end all were fairly minor things besides exhaust manifolds which everyone knows about. I have enjoyed my 06 for years now and was glad I got second and third opinions, especially, from third party businesses with nothing to lose.

the only killer is how far away it is from you. what was decided?

OK, this is an old thread, but I had to laugh when I saw the pix of this high mileage Titan for sale, because I recognized it right away with that ugly canopy... it's still for sale in the Seattle / Tacoma area, but they're now asking $14,950 for it! Not sure if it's the same dealer (you can find that ad on autorader if you're interested).
