truck locks up when trying to back up a trailer.. Which safety system has to be turn off? I know it must be in the manual somewhere and i will look. just wondering if anyone knew offhand?

Don't think I have a back sensor button.... I end up going into "driver assistance" screen and turning off the CTA and then turn off the front emergency brake and the back emergency brake. After that it let me move the trailer... Maybe i'm missing something, doesn't seem like it should be that difficult. I didn't see anything much about towing in the owners manual, but I didn't take a lot of time going thru it.. I'll post back if I find anything more informative.

Pretty sure it's your back emergency brake setting. That's supposed to keep you from backing into things.

I just had the exact same problem backing our trailer up a short incline to it's parking pad with our new '21 XD Platinum Plus.

Since it's all gravel I always have to use 4WD. I put it in 4WD HI with everything turned off and it would get about half way up the incline and just lose all power, foot to the floor it wouldn't rev past about 1,500 RPM. At first I thought the trailer brakes were sticking so I unplugged the 7-way, made sure the front/rear auto emergency braking was off, traction control was off, parking assist was off, back-up sensors off.....still a no go. It was backing fine on flat ground. The trailer is only 21' and weighs 4,540 loaded.

I tried a couple times and then stopped before I overheated the transmission. Put it in 4WD LO and it backed like a champ.

No idea what was going on, I've read that the reverse gear is pretty high, but that's just crazy if that was why it wouldn't back up. And I had the button shown above off as well.

This particular configuration of this truck infuriates me.

The truck knows when a trailer is hooked up via the harness. It also has a "tow" mode you can activate. Why wouldn't it couple disabling rear emergency braking with the activation of tow mode or plugging in a 7-pin harness?

Every single time I back up my utility trailer it does this whenever I turn the wheel and I want to fire the truck into the sun. I shouldn't have to disable it every single time I change gears to straighten the trailer out. I have a narrow driveway so it takes me a couple tries to back my trailer in correctly. Have to hit the stupid button every single time, and if I forget the truck tries to induce whiplash.

Just not very well thought through on Nissan's part.

Agree! The truck has all this technology and it does not know when you shift to reverse with a trailer that all that nanny crap needs to be turned off. This and the fact that they don't have actual real stake pockets in the bed are my biggest complaints so far....

OMG! I just towed my camper for the first time this weekend with my new '21 SV and learned first hand about this annoyance! What a PITA it is to back up with this. every time shifting from R to D then back to R (which is several times when backing into a campsite, or my driveway) I had to re-push this button!! I guess I'm ok that it doesn't auto detect that I have a trailer hooked up (Though that itself is stupid.. I'm in "tow" mode and have a 7-pin harness connected!) but if I push the button and shut the feature OFF, it's because I want it off! It shouldn't reset every time I shift the parking lever. Should at least stay off until I shut the truck off. Definitely an oversight on Nissan's software engineers' part!

All you've done is come in here to be a smarta$$ and not add any value other that to pad your post count and brag about how great you are. I'm glad the moderators allow you to do this, keep posting champ, one more and you'll be to 72,300!

I'm sure your followers are impressed, but those of us who have been on multiple forums for years see you for what you are....yet another troll.

So I've observed something else about this that I'm wondering if others see the same behavior. I noticed that after towing my trailer, seemingly randomly the front and rear sensors (the beeps when I get close to an object) were shut OFF in the menu system. I thought it had something to do with the "P" button on the dash, and repeatedly pushing it while backing my trailer up. But it wasn't consistent.

What I think I've determined is that if I shut the "P" button off (amber light off) on the dash, and then while it is off, Shut off the truck. The next time I start the truck, the "P" button amber light comes back on. But if I go into the menu system (next to speedometer) and into driver aids.. The sensors are reset to the OFF position and I need to turn them on there for them to work again. This sure seems like a software bug and not an intentional feature! Has anyone else seen this in their truck?

Have not noticed this, but will test it.

I haven't been bothered as much by the sensors themselves - it's the friggin automatic emergency braking that kicks in while I'm trying to back in my camper. It's lunacy that this wasn't given more smarts. Truck can tell if a 7 pin is connected, and a tow mode can be activated. Why not disable or desensitize rear auto braking when you have something hooked up?

Hands down my biggest gripe about my truck.

I got the truck without the tow package as I didn't have that option. I added the hitch and harness receiver. Went to dealership and they told me I needed 3 modules for the fuse box. Bought those. Went to ramp and hit the "P" button and it stopped the "beeping" etc ... but it doesn't stay off.

Are all you guys having the same issue needing to hit the "P" button repeatedly and you bought factory "tow package" ?

Yes - system turns itself back on after you shift back into drive from reverse. Every time you shift into reverse, you have to turn system back off again.
