A friend of mine who's a very experience installer spent all day today trying to get steering wheel controls working on my 2017 Titan XD with my Pioneer AVH-x391bhs, with very limited success.

First he tried the Axxess ASWC-1, even with a firmware update it wouldn't work at all. A call to customer service, told him to setup it up for a 2008 Altima, and it started to work. But the buttons were all wrong. He tried remapping, but every time he did, all the other buttons would get remapped as well, and previously remapped buttons might change as well.

Next he tried a Metra unit, which doesn't officially support the Titan. So he set it up for a 2008 Altima as well. This one he got it much closer to fully functionality. He was able to remap, and get all buttons working except the left/right for driver info display. Problem is this unit would often lock up the driver info display, requiring us to disconnect the battery to reset it. Strangely, every time we reset after this, the odometer lost a mile or two. After that we removed the unit, called it a day, and decided more research was necessary.

With both units he did install the necessary resistor.

Anyone else have experience getting steering controls working with aftermarket head units?

Thanks, I'll be going over those guides with my friend. I actually also own a 2013 frontier. But keeping that stereo stock.

I assume you lost your around view monitor?

Huh, why would I? My pioneer headunit actually has a much larger display than the OEM headunit. I went aftermarket because I bought my titan with no backup camera, or backup sensors, and I wanted both. The backup camera, and backup sensors hooked up both work much better than the OEM versions in my frontier.

I used the PAC-SW on my Frontier and it worked great with a Pioneer Nav unit. I didn't have any issues setting it up. I just checked if that unit works on a 2017 Titan and it does come up with a page for it with some notes:
https://pac-audio.com/swi-guide#2017-nissan-titan-swi-ps/15299/16

I'm going to keep an eye on this. I've never made it more than a year on a factory head unit. I really would like to have android auto for waze. Not a fan of the factory navigation.

Ok yall, I figured out the steering wheel controls for a 2017 Nissan Titan XD S. Behind the wheel there is 2 positive leads that work perfectly with any radio that accepts 2 positive steering wheel control wires(not sure if this will work with radios that only have one wheel control wire). I purchased the Atoto S8 Ultra. I have turned off and on the truck to ensure it saved all wheel controls. I will send pics to update this post. And keep you all up to date as time goes by.

Start by removing the collar of the steering wheel, underneath you'll find the connection I show in pics 3-6. The right two wires (nearest Firewall looking from passenger side to driver side, red and pink for my truck). These are you steering wheel control wires. They wire directly to the Atoto S8 Ultra with additional equipment and a few minutes work running 18awg using T taps then go under wheel through dash to back of radio. I did test this with another radio with only one wheel control wire and it worked having both go to one wire. It's an old Pyle o crap radio I bout 4yrs ago. Hope this helps someone. If you have any questions feel free to let me know. I'll be adding new tweeters and an amp soon. As well as 360* cameras.

Reviving this thread instead of creating a new one. So, I will be attempting an aftermarket stereo swap very soon. I think I have done all my homework and bought the right adapter harnesses, but want to run it by the folks hear who have successfully done this swap and retained both rear backup camera and steering wheel controls. These are the harnesses I bought. First it the Axxess AX-NIS32SWC-6V, this seems to have both the steering wheel and rear camera adapters. The red circle is the harness adapter ( the one that plugs into the truck ), the blue circle is the steering wheel module, and the green circle is the 6V converter for the stock rear camera. The orange is what plugs into the aftermarket stereo for the steering wheel controls. I don't care if I do not see the radio station on the truck's center dash display, I am more concerned about retaining volume, input and the ability to switch between the fuel economy, tire pressure etc. modes.

My questions is this. Since I have the adapter that plugs into the trucks harness ( red circle ) that has the steering wheel controls, I shouldn't have to use the wires labeled
" Steering wheel key + " and just use the 1/8" plug ( orange circle ) right?

This is the combo adapter for both Steering and Rear camera retention.

This is the harness adapter for power and speakers that plugs into the truck's connector.

Has anyone tried this?

It lacks SiriusXM but it has CarPlay or can simply install from the Google's App Store. I'm about to get it but I'm waiting for an answer on what features from the dashboard may be retained.
