What do you all think would be better a Banks exhaust or getting a shop to make me one with the 2.25" piping an X pipe and possibly 2 spintech mufflers. im not sure. I really like the sound of the Banks but I'm not sure if the custom setup would give me more power. And I am kinda worried that the spintechs might be too loud but im not sure

This may not help.......but I absolutely love the sound of my banks....sure sounds better than the hemi with flowmasters up the street. Only problem is my muffler has already burnt out after 5 months and makes an awful rattle. I am actually looking at a spintech to put in place of my banks as we speak. I love the banks sound, I may have just been unlucky on getting a defective muffler. Best of luck on whichever route you choose to go man.

I think all the banks mufflers do that, after about 15,000 mi. on my old banks I switched to JBA and when i had the system off I noticed after shaking the banks muffler I could hear a little rattling going on which I think was the cause for making my truck sound really raspy at high rpms.

One advantage over getting a banks exhaust kit or some other name brand kit, is you will get mandrel bends instead of the crush bends like you get a most exhaust shops. The crush bends can disturb the air flow causing turbulence and restriction. This could cause a little HP loss, but in my opinion it wouldn't be enough to notice. I prefer mandrel bends just because it looks better then seeing the little crimps the crush bends make.

I had my banks welded on rather than using the clamps, so I am sure when I cut the muffler off they will try and void my warranty from not using the clamps.

alright guys thanks for the help, im thinking either the banks or custom exhaust will be my next mod after I get an Iron Bull front bumper

Is it possible to just order a Banks muffler at whatever size I want? Then I could do the custom setup and just put their muffler on it

you get a Banks and it will absolutely kill your low-end torque. i had the Banks for 2 years. took it off and had my custom set-up with smaller diameter tubing and spintech and regained that low-end torque. loved the sound of the banks but it wasn't nearly as loud as my spintech is now. bear in mind there are different levels of spintechs you can get. the mild sportsman is a bit louder than the banks. or you can go as loud as the super pros and install resonators to get a Banks-like deep tone but loud. many options or ways of going about it. just not a fan of glasspacked mufflers after the Banks. the packing doesn't last.

Im thinking the custom 2.25" piping with an X-pipe and then possibly the Spintech Pro Streets so its loud but not too crazy and then doing what you said and adding resonators(dont know anything about them really) to give it a little deeper sound because i like that deeper tone better. So with this setup it would be better to get 2 mufflers correct since its going to be dual exhaust?

#13 ·
correct, 2 mufflers. resonators are like mini-mufflers, which if designed or tuned correctly help cancel out some sound waves. but that's where the problem lies. getting the right resonator is not an exact science but it is one that is tested and tuned according to the motor. as where glasspacked mufflers utilized the packing to absorb and slow some of the sound pulses down. spintech does it in an entirely different way. in a sense it acts like a big giant resonator, in that it spins the gases, which superheat the hot exhaust helping to cancel out a huge percentage of drone caused by the muffler. so not only do you have reduced drone in the spintech exhaust but it does not lose much of the sound produced by the motor nor does it hinder the flow of the exhaust. getting an x-pipe will drastically reduce rasp as it helps to smooth the flow of the gases as it enters the spintechs. honestly, i can't say i've ever heard what resonators sound like with the Super Pros but theoretically its got to be deeper. i've been thinking of doing that exact setup to hear how it would sound. LOUD and DEEP!!! cause i know for a fact the dual Super Pros are loud as a mofo!

Ya, the only problem I have with my Spintechs is that when I floor it, it has this 'baseball card in the spokes' rasp for just a second right before shifting to the next gear. Don't know if that's normal or not but am thinking about doing an audio clip of it and posting to see all the other spintech guys have the same issue. It only does it when I get on it though.

#17 ·
ya, i have it too, then it goes away. it's a certain sound wave created when the motor is pegged. nature of the beast and can be eliminated but then you'd be sacrificing something in the way of loudness... if anything the spintechs remind me of the general lee accelerating hard when roscoe is right on their tails

Roscoe P. Coltrain reference, nice!

#20 ·
No, that looked like the Sasquatch!!

Since it would be dual mufflers do you think I should get 2 super pro streets or 2 pro streets. I want it loud and to sound like sex to my ears but I dont want it to blow up my ears lol

#23 ·
Alright man thanks I think I might go with the super pro streets then

Just looking for some opinions but do you all have your pipes coming straight out the back, to the side, or what?

Oh also i read in another thread the 08's have 2.5" piping not 2.25" but I'm not sure if they were wrong or not

#33 ·
If that was my post in that High flow cats thread that you're talking about, I don't know if that was true. I was waiting for someone to chime in with what the pipe size really is. I was speculating that they might have been 2.5 inch since the Cats on the 08s have a 2.5 inch outlet, but someone else mentioned something about them having a reducer after them. If I were you i'd crawl under your truck, and measure them yourself. Only real way to be sure.

I don't know that it's any louder, but I don't have any real frame of reference. They are louder than my flowmaster was, I know that.

Haha yea that was your post I was talking about and I might just crawl under there and check. I am hoping to get to an exhaust shop sometime soon. For those of you who have gotten custom exhausts about how long should it take for them to get everything all fabed up and installed?

#37 ·
Yeah it took the exhaust shop here an hour just to cut out and weld in a new muffler with 10 inches of piping in front of it. I can imagine a full fab job here would take at least 3 hours.

Or if it is completely custom like the first time doing it and all even longer trust me. Plus I think my guy was lagging a little bit.lol
