I am not big into racing but I plan on running my truck against my Dad's Hemi once my breakin miles are complete. When you race do you shift manually or just leave it in drive and give it gas?

If you shift manually, at what RPM's do you ussually shift at?

Oh by the way my truck is an stock 05 Crew Cab and his is a stock Hemi 2500 long bed Heavy Duty. I am pretty sure I have this one even though he does not want to admit it..... :)

Thanks,

Eric

i have an xe cc so it comes with manual shift mode, not found on se and le. xes are good for racing as it comes with an auto stick feature like those found on lexus is300s
Hmmm, my SE has a "gated shifter." So you can shift manually if you so desire.

I did not know the XE's came with a manual shift mode. Why would they have that on the XE's and not the other models?

Some SE's come with the option (-$150) of having a front bench. Being that you cannot have the console anymore, they migrated the shifter on the steering wheel column, just like your XE. All XE's come with front bench, thus no console shifter. I needed to haul six people (3 in front, 3-4 out back) sometimes so I opted the front bench on my SE. The column shifter has the manual shift mode like on your XE.

Just my $.04

That makes more sense now. It is the shifters on the steering wheel column that have the manual shift mode. The shifters on the center console have the gated shifter which does not require the manual shift mode.

Just put it in D. You could also put it manually in 3 or 4, but won't matter, as the shift points will be the same. At WOT, you'll finish the 1/4 mile in 3rd (assuming you're racing him a full 1/4).

What year is your dad's Ram? Hope it's not an '03...been hearing those are quicker than the '04 and later Hemis.

Go kick his butt! :D Nothin' like a little father/son rivalry...haha!

You should have no problem with a stock 2500
Just be very sure he's not a diesel and he's stock.

The manual gear selecter on 90% of cars on the market today is for hauling or steep grades, not for "racing". And even those cars that do come with tiptronics, that's really for staying in a lower gear through corners, not for acceleration purposes.

If he is stock...you'll hand him his arse....but I lost to a 2003 2500 Quad Cab Hemi with CAI, Exhaust, and a Superchip Performance Programmer. Beat me by 1/2 truck length.

And I have big heavy 22 inch wheels, AEM Intake, and Gibson Extreme Dual Exhaust.

Put the shifter in 3rd, 4th or D. You will murder him as he's way heavier than you are. Here's a timeslip of my Dad's 1500 Qc 4x4 hemi vs. My CC 4x4 titan. I even spotted him 4 tenths in reaction time and still passed it by the 1/8 mile mark, didn't do it on purpose but added insult to injury none the less. When he's hits 2nd gear the the titan will begin to pull like he's not even moving. :rockon

Manual shift mode in 2005 XE Titans

i have a 2005 XE CC Titan. i guess some of you are confused. yes the SE and LEs have a gated shifter and you can go to 4th and 3rd gear, but the XEs have a manual shift from 1st-4th gear. i learned that from the dealer and yes it is better for racing, you can shift out from 1st gear at 30-40mph! kills the engine though, but it is faster at taking off! dealer told me you can get 0-60 easily in the 6s rather than 7.2-7.9s. just my 2cents.
