Hi, :)
I'm new to Titantalk. Just wanted to say hi to everyone here. Just picked up a new 04 CC, smoke, 4WD, LE, 20" rims, ect. Drove truck home with 2 miles on the Od. Great truck!!! Have one problem :crying: . The E-brake does not work at all!!!! I thought I wasn't pressing the E-brake pedal down far enough. So parked it on a 20degree incline threw it in park, engage the E-brake pedal, put the truck in neutral to test and the darn thing just started to roll downhill. What gives. Has anyone had this problem? Guess I will take her in for a E-brake adjustment :eh: . I currently have only 388 miles on the truck.

I first had the same problem. The dealer said he fixed it. The problem was still there, so I took it back again. The service manager said they will look at it again. Then he said the emergency brake is NOT to be used by itself but is to be used only with the transmission in Park. Then he had it adjusted all the way up. But I could still push it all the way to the floor. Since then I have twice driven away from a parked position and forgot to release the e-brake until a couple of miles down the road. I haven't taken it in again because I know what he will say. "Sorry, that's the best we can do."

I would like to know if any of you have had the same problem with the dealer claiming they can't fix it. Then I would like to know if you ever got it fixed and how.

Thanx, Roy

What a load of crap! If it won't hold the truck and keep the weight off of the transmission, why even put a parking brake on the truck? Hell just get a set of wheel chocks and stow them in the storage box.

They did the emergency brake adjustment a couple of days ago ....and the brake TSB even though I only had about 4,200 miles...no judder.and the rotors were like new.......so it stops a little quicker now..and the e brake has a little rsistance to it now.haven't tried parking on a hill in neutral and testing the e-brake yet. They found 3 out of 4 tires psi sensors leaking...had to order the new seals. Also had misalignment..which was making for the steering wheel to be turned 1" to the right of middle to go straight. The alignment did fix that also......and new window switches and window squeegie......so a little comfort has been restored. No squeeks yet.

Update on E-brake problem. Took the Truck to Dealer and talked to the service manager, very nice gentleman. Explain the problem to him and he and I went outside to test the truck. Applied the E-brake and then put the truck in "D", the truck started to go forward. Put the truck in "R" and it also went backwards. Dealer took it in for a day and adjusted the E-brake. It now holds on an incline. He also wanted to turn my rotors and replace my pads. I told him DO NOT touch anything!!!! I have had very bad experiences in the past with Dealers doing work that weren't needed. I 've read and know about the brake problems that most of you are having, but I guess I"m one of the lucky ones.

I'm assuming it's basically either the front E-cable or the rear-Y cable. Haven't had the time to look underneath to see what the Titan uses. Had on older Ford F150 and I simply adjusted the front cable within a few clicks and it held the Ford very well. Much better then my Titan I have to say. It now takes about 5-6 clicks to firmly lock the E-brakes, where else before I could push the E-brake fully down and it wouldn't hold.

The emergency brake on the Titan consists of a small set of "drum" style brake shoes that are inside of the "hat" of your rear brake rotors. You should be able to adjust them by shortening the single cable that pulls on a "Y" cable. It also appears that there is an adjustment at the shoes as well. I have attached a diagram of the e-brake from the service manual. I didn't have time to review the adjustment procedure from the manual. Maybe I can add that info tonight.
Keep in mind that the Titan has lots of torque, and you may be able to override these style of brakes with engine power. For any dealer to tell you that they won't hold a truck on an incline, is BS. If they won't hold your vehicle on an incline, they either need to be adjusted, or redesigned if they are inadequate. I have only used mine on a slight incline, and while they could use some adjustment, the E-brake always keeps the truck from moving while in Neutral.
When parking on a hill, I always apply the E-brake and let the truck settle against the brakes while in Neutral, before shifting to Park. Then when leaving, I shift out of Park before I release the E-brake. It is much easier on the Park gear, and always shifts easily this way.

Same problem here. Thought it needed adjustment. Dealer took off one of the rear wheels - the damned thing wasn't even connected - they say it must have shipped that way from the factory.

Now, brake holds even when pressed half-way down. Tighter than a drum. Amazing...
