Engine chokes itself out after start up.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the problem of after starting up your Titan does it seem to choke itself out? I mean you crank it. It starts up good but no more than 2 seconds after it cranks it dies down and almost quits (sometimes it does) but then catches back on and idles like normal. It just started doing this about 8K or 9K miles ago. Do ya'll reckon that the K&N drop in would have anything to do with it? Or maybe my exhaust? I didn't have any problems like this until I had the upgrades put on. Any help or feedback will be appreciated. Hope all of you have a very Merry Christmas and a drunken New Year. :upsidedow

Possibly your mass air flow sensor is going bad. Your K&N might have too much oil in it. Look at the sensor and see if it's coated in it. Why haven't you had this looked at in all those miles since it started?

Have u messed with any electrical? I had that problem when I messed with some electrical...I disconnected to battery for a night, reconnected and it worked, never had the problem again...I believe my mess up was unplugging the speedometer and turning on the truck with it unplugged...I guess it doesnt like that...

Well the mileage was just a guesstimate. It doesn't do it every time. Just when it decides to.

ye it will just crank but wont start...have u tried starting the truck with the remote start and then putting a key without the chip or a key that isnt programmed? It'll work...I have an extra key that isnt programmed and tried starting the truck...it would just crank but wouldnt turn over or turn on...BUT that same key, if u remote start the truck and then use that key, itll work...

If you have another key on your ring that has a chip for another car, it could be too close to your Titan's key. The signal the other key is transmiting may be interfearing with your Titan's key. This probably isn't your problem, but just a thought. I have a Maxima key on my chain and it has never interfeared with my Titan's or visa-versa.

Had the same problem.

What Octane gas are you running?

My 04 was doing the same thing on the 93 Octane.

I called dealer and told him about it and he said switch to 87 or 89.
I did and voila, problem was fixed.

I had a similar problem but when running the low octane...it would be all slugish and slow...with the premium it works best for me...my truck wont even launch with the reg stuff

I know what you're saying but there has been posted absolute proof by the auto companies saying that higher octane than your car was made to run on does absolutely ZERO for your engine. The oil companies do thank you for the extra free money though...

Well, if it started doing it after you intalled the K&N filter setup, then that might be your problem. Swap it back and see what happens. Other than that, what's the weather like there? Wet, cold? Also maybe be the fuel like HemiETR mentioned. Filling up at the same station? A lot of gas stations have different kinds of fuel. Quality wise.

Now that I think about it...Once in my trans am I washed the engine and forgot bout the air filter...it got drenched and drove the car around...it would do the same thing when I finally took it out after about 1/2 hour and was like oh cr@p...lol...oh well...maybe it was wet or the oil like someone else said...

Hey guys and am I just full of cr@p then whe I say that the higher the octane the better my truck runs...maybe its not that...maybe its just that the premium gas where I put gas is cleaner than the reg. stuff...all I know is my truck WILL NOT kick with reg gas...only with mid or higher...and a few cents doesnt really bother me especially after payin like 60 bucks for a fillup...

Since this is transitory and does not persist after a few seconds, it does not sound like it is either the MAF or your fuel.

It may be the ECU adjusting to temp and running its cold start up cycle. On most ECU controlled electronic fuel injection systems, there may need to be a slight adjustment made by your dealer to raise the cold start engine speed about 100 rpm or so, or to reflash the ECU.

I think that if you drive it a few days it may make this adjustment on its own.

When you start it, do you turn the key right to start or do you turn the key on and wait a second or to? You might try waiting a second or two before you start the truck to let the fuel pressure raise. You could have the dealer adjust the base idle up but it might affect the way the truck runs.

Had the same promblem with my 04 and it turned out to be th mass airflow sensor. Take it to the dealer and have them look at it since it is still under warrenty.

Well I check the MAF sensor yesterday and no oil build-up on the sensor. I'm puzzled now.

Why not spray it with carb cleaner anyway, there might be a thin film that you can't see.

Is the problem still happening? What Octane gas are you running?
