Heat/AC Issues

Has anyone had issues with their AC/Heat? Most of the time now, I can have the truck on AC at 70 with Auto off and it is blowing pretty hot air. I turn it down to 65 and it’s cooler but not as cool as it should be. It’s around 48 degrees outside so I can’t see that being a problem. Not sure what the issue is.

It's because it's 48deg outside. The auto climate reads the temp in the cab and the exterior temp, and tries to modulate the incoming air to make the cab the temp you set. If you want a 70deg cab, and it's 48deg out, you need warmer air.

I just took mine in for the same problem. Dealer told me it's a bad sensor that's always at 36 degrees so it's constantly trying to heat the cab. There is no service manual for the truck is what I was told so they are keeping the truck for a week while they talk to a Nissan engineer on how to replace it. They need to take apart the entire dash, needless to say I'm pissed after only 600 miles.

I took mine to the dealer last Friday because setting the temperature at 18 would blow cool air but setting it at 18.5 would blow hot air like if you set it to the maximum and they did fix it, apparently they replaced a hose. I need to look at the paperwork when I get home and give you more specifics

Update: Took it in to the dealer on Monday the 11th and got a call back saying the sensor was fixed on the 19th. They first called me the 19th saying they would probably have the truck another week or so. I asked who I should talk to at Nissan corporate about this problem and they give me the number. I then got a call back an hour later saying they suddenly fixed the problem. I had to pick it up after service was closed but I got in the truck and the problem was still there. As soon as I turn it up to 62 degrees it's hot air. Took the truck back first thing the next morning and now they are going to replace the entire heater unit. I've driven the truck about 500 miles and had it for 2 weeks and it's been in the shop for 2 weeks. I haven't place a call to Nissan yet, thinking about doing that today.

The dealer replaced the entire heater unit but I'm still having the same problems (on top of the check engine light for the front active shutters that got replaced as well as the dealer trashing my new interior). AC is ice cold at 60 and 61, blows warm at 62 unless the outside temp is warm. Drove the truck a few hours with the outside temp in the low 50's and it's either warm in the cab or you will freeze your butt off if you drop it to 61. The loaner Murano they gave me does the same thing so I googled it and apparently they've had this problem for a few years with many of their vehicles. I'd be curious to know how many of your titan's do the same thing. Trying to get a new truck or a buyback at this point, but if they all do it then I will look elsewhere for a truck. Had my last titan for 11 years with zero problems, this one has been in the shop since Dec 11th except for 4 days. If any of you guys could try this and report back it would be much appreciated.

I went to the Nissan dealer this morning to check out other vehicles to see if they did the same thing and all the ones with a digital temp system did the same thing (tried 3 titans and one maxima). The base models with knobs slowly adjust the temp as it should. It's been in the 50's around here and when going on longer drives there is no comfortable setting , the cab just warms up to about 80. I think it's ridiculous that these vehicles come with this kind of system. All other cars I have been in gradually adjust the temp. How has this not been addressed by Nissan seeing as this has been going on for years?

Add another to the list experiencing this issue. Bought my Titan used (only 3200 miles) not even 2 weeks ago and just discovered the problem today. I'll bring it up when I go in to get my driver's side window fixed (bad regulator), so hopefully I can get some clarification on the issue.

Guys, I told you about this last September. See this link: http://www.titantalk.com/forums/tit...ums/titan-problems-dealer-service/395129-found-heater-control-valve-source.html
It in, I also mention a thread I wrote called Heater Knob. What Nissan calls a hose is actually a hose connected to a control valve. The valve opens and closes the flow of antifreeze through the heater core. It's an electric motor servo controlled by the heater control. The motor, through a delicate worm gear, opens and closes the valve.
It's a problem because like all water valves, they can "stick," especially if left in one position too long. (mine was left on too long in the Air Cond mode, thus keeping the valve stuck closed)
The second problem is that Nissan calls it a hose.
It only costs about $150 - not too bad for a piece of equipment like this.
THE GOOD NEWS is that it's easy to open up, gently remove the worm gear, then turn the valve open/closed a few times with a big screwdriver to free up the valve. I didn't open the valve to prevent losing fluid. Since then, regardless of temp, I try to remember to swing it from heat to cool once a week. Follow my threads, and you'll see pictures and more.

I know several Titan XD owners were having simular issues with blending doors. I don't know the specifics as I wasn't having this issue with my XD although there is a TSB Bulletin out on the XD'S. Do a google search for issues on Titan XD PLUS Titan XD Forum or to to their website. There maybe some useful or relevant information there.

So just got back from my service appointment for the window regulator fix, and the tech said there is no issue with the climate control system. He said the trucks are designed to operate this way, which aligns with what deetsmx posted in a previous reply. There is a similar thread on this over on the XD forums, and one user also replied that this is how the system is designed by Nissan.

As long as my AC operates as expected when it warms up here in the next month (GA), I don't think I'll have any issue adjusting to this system.

On a side note, if you ever go searching for the heater control valve, it is not in the same place as the previous generation (behind firewall on passenger side engine bay). I gave up looking for the valve, since it doesn't appear to be the same issue.

Mine takes forever to warm up and cool down. The rear vents might as well not work b/c on full blast there's barely any air coming out for my kids. Same thing on my when you finally get it hot or cold the slightest adjustment does a complete temp change. It's very frustrating and I've never had this issue with any vehicle I've ever owned. Not sure what it could be. Any guesses?

I have a same problem, my son and another friend in Phoenix, AZ too. When is cold in the morning ( let say 45 F ), setting the temperature to 60 and 61 F blows cold as it gets, than from 62 F and up blows very hot. Nothing in between. Than, when outside temperature rises, good luck to set any temperature!!! If you try to set to 70 F, it would blow hot, than next time that 70 F will be too cold. I CAN'T MANAGE TEMPERATURE EVER!!! I have an open claim with Nissan, so does my son. Dealership services ( two different one ) couldn't fix it and had a same problem with UNSOLD NEW ONES. STILL SELLING THOSE AS PERFECTLY FIND TRUCKS!!!! Nissan Consumer Affairs called me several times pretending that there isn't a problem and saying that they are not aware of any other vehicles with a same problem!!!! Also they won't communicate via email nor give you anything in writing!!! I told them to stop calling me. Every time was long conversation without accomplishing anything. Total waste of time. Also, any service department is not reporting complaints I even wrote to Attorney General ( here in Arizona ) and they wouldn't do anything! In the message they advise me to get an attorney! I was wondering if we can get a class action for it.

@TigerJ684 I tried using only Auto and it worked - thanks for the tip. I am just going to leave it there I guess. It adjusts the blower to how hot it is in the cab I guess, but it will freeze you out that way. I am super old school and like to do things the old way I guess by turning AC on, adjust knob towards blue and crank it up. I guess those days are gone for us old timers since when I do it the old way same results. But, I just wanted to chime back to let everyone know it's not a truck problem I think it's just a new way of doing things that I am not quite used to yet.

Anyone find that having the system on "auto" doesn't kick in the AC? First hot day (90), got in the truck and started to drive and realized it's still friggin hot in the truck. Messed around with the temp etc, no change, just fan speed went down and up. Finally hit the "AC" button and cold air kicked in. This is our 4th or 5th vehicle with Auto Climate control and this is the first one that seems to work this way.

I noticed the same thing. This is my first Nissan truck of three to not auto kick in the AC. It annoyed me in previous vehicles that the AC would automatically turn on even in the winter. So I am happy it doesn't turn on automatically all of the time, but wish that it would turn it on when it actually needs it and off when it doesn't. Maybe I am just thinking the system should be smarter then it is.

Just started getting the problem in my 2017 Titan this year (~2yrs after purchase). Tried auto, manual, dual zone, synced, recirc/fresh air, vent, feet, defrost, etc. Tried flipping to hot then back to cold. None of it helps. For mine, i can tell the AC is running but for whatever reason it is blowing hot air at the same time and it getting overpowered. So it's barely cool on "Low" and actually heating at ~70 degrees. Taking it on Monday and will see what they say.

This is one thing I have just lived with until I find the real way to fix.

60 is ice cold 65 and above blows warms EVEN when its hot outside (90s-100s). I prefer colder so I just leave it at 60 and then adjust the fan speed as needed but even i get too cold
