Nope. No easier way. The fuel pump, filter, and sending unit are all essentially one piece, and yes, they're inside the tank. Good luck.

I don't think cleaning out the fuel filter will help in this case. The T fuel pump relies on the gas in the tank for cooling. When our "!" low fuel light comes on, the T still has about 4 gallons left in the tank. This is to keep some fuel in the tank for cooling. If the tank was run dry a couple of times, it may be that the fuel pump is damaged from overheating.

Shut off all the HVAC and electronics in the truck. Turn the key to the ON position. Do you hear the fuel pump? If not, then it could mean that the unit has kicked it.

This has happened to a few guys off the Frontier forums.

its the ipdm.. I have already been through this and I run low on gas all the time around in the desert heat so the fuel pump or filter is highly unlikely.

A quick fix that I ran on for about six months with no problems is to open your IPDM and swap the ecm-ecu relay with the fog light relay. So I couldnt use my fogs but the truck ran perfect. I believe all trucks have the relay with our without fogs but you will have to confirm that?? You will see that their locations are marked on the ipdm lid. The relay is exactly the same. I had to wait on titanblues 7 dollar fix relay(back ordered) to get here and I ran on that for another year before the ipdm recall.. The recall does exactly what I did. It changes the ecm-ecu relay out only with one just like the one I got from titanblue on here. It is diode protected.
Right now that bad relay is spitting out bad signals to your ecu causing it to shut down. This problem has also corrupted ecu-ecm so bad that you will have to replace the ecu if you keep on running it with a bad relay.

You will need needle nose or pliers to pull the relays out.
