If not a Titan

I'm just curious, with some people bashing the Titan, what other truck would you purchase? If your Titan completely died right now and you had to replace it, what would you replace it with?

I need a truck so I’d have to see what’s out there at that time. I don’t trust Rams cylinder deactivation as they have lifter failures and it’s an over $3000 repair. It’s say Ford then Chevy or GMC.

Lol, this thread can probably be answered differently post-covid. "Anything available" is probably an acceptable answer.

My situation has changed but not because of COVID. Now that I get a good 10-15 percent discount on GM products again, it makes more sense for me to use that discount. Having said that, I don't really like the Silverado that much. The Sierra isn't that bad, but even with my discount it might be too marked up. Then you add the cost of gas going up, it actually might make more sense to buy a beater car and just rent a truck if you don't need it daily. If I could get a Titan with the same discount I get from GM, I'd probably consider another. About the only thing that gets me about the Nissan that isn't as bad as the GM twins is how much worse resale is.

The biggest draw to the Titan for me was the value. I didn't need it to be the best at any one thing or the most luxurious.

I'd probably go with one of the Ram 1500 Classics. You can get a really good deal on a 4x4 with a V8 if you don't care about all of the most current bells, whistles and luxuries (which I don't). It's nice truck for a reasonable price.

i would probably go back to a frontier, unless i got a good deal on an XD. and it would have to be really good with how prices are now.

actually, with how prices are, i would probably just drive my ranger till prices normalized on gas and trucks

Interesting question, from my perspective. I need a trailer-puller, even though it's not going to get driven every day. Am currently waiting for time with my mechanic to get my rear axle rebuilt. It didn't make sense to do when the truck was only worth $3100, but now that the truck's worth $9600, I'll get it done.

But if I had to trade, I'd never, ever get another Ford. They really sh@fted me on warranty issues; and I don't trust the EcoBoost with all the stuff that keeps getting reported about it. Toyoter is out; I used to have to work on them, and resented getting cut up anytime I did. And their handling...bleh. Plus the 'gold-pressed latinum' you have to cough up when you need service, as they engineered in secret items that are Dealer-only maintenance. That leaves GMC (badge-engineered Chev) and Dodge. Both are pretty good choices, although I really like the idea of the air suspension which "kneels" for my old messed-up knees to be able to enter/exit. The GMs were always as easy as my Titan to get in and out of.

Why not Nissan. even though their cars and trucks have treated me so well in the past? (Owned over a dozen) The new Titan is too big/tall. When my 2004 was made, it was the perfect size for a full-size truck. Plus it handled great. Nissan has lost their bubble; they used to make great-driving cars and trucks, but something has happened and they've gone all 'Toyoter' in handling.

I've actually been thinking about trading in my 2022 Frontier for a Titan as I like the comfort of it much more. It had some issues with the actuator and the locking but I think I've finally resolved it after 4 trips to the dealer.

I got it in January and don't have 1500 miles on it (1496!). However I will probably have to pay a little bit on the trade to get out of the lease.

I could wait until these ridiculous prices drop and then trade out as well. Then the equity drops anyways. However, I write off the lease for business anyways so a bigger write off wouldn't be bad right now. I think taxes might get ugly this year.

Considering a Platinum Reserve but might just get an SV.

It's all up in the air right now though.

The F-150 looked nice and rode nice, however I wasn't sure about the reliability. Since I'm leasing it's not a big deal though unless it's just horrible.

I really liked my PR. If I didn't downgrade from a home where home projects were an every weekend kind of thing, I probably would've held onto it. The panoroof gave it the airiness of a jeep, but the brown interior gave me a feeling of when my parents used to visit a guy that had a lot of high end leather furniture, and some deer heads mounted on his wall. All it was missing was the smell of expensive cigars. It might've been a law office that we were in. I was too young to remember. Mine was pearl white, and originally wasn't fond of the color, but it had a certain "old money" feel to it. I'd say the Titan PR is probably one of the best values in luxury trucks out there.

Back in the fall of 2020 I almost bought a Ram Rebel. If a dealer didn't pull a dirty trick on me after I put in my deposit that would be the end of the story.
After dealer shenanigans I got my deposit back and started looking what else was out there. Although I always liked Rams (I owned 4 Grand Cherokees in a row and they always treated me well so moving to Ram would be a natural transition) I also always liked the underdog Titan.
2020 facelift caught my attention and after seeing Pro4X in Baja Storm I knew I found my next truck.
Although it had it's share of small electrical gremlins in 22k miles it never left me stranded and tows my travel trailer like a champ. Knowing that factory warranty will get me covered for another 3 years is great.
Now - if I was buying today?
Probably F 150 Powerbost although I would be afraid of Ford's long term reliability.
Maybe a new Tundra platinum hybrid as I think platinum trim is the least polarizing in terms of looks.

I’m new to the Titan and throughly enjoying the truck. But I’ve owned other brands. Mostly Fords.

Assuming a suitable Titan was not available as a replacement, and based on my towing needs and past experience, it would come to a tossup (based on $$) between an F150 or a RAM 1500.

Other than I no longer consider myself "new to the Titan," and a caveat I'll note below, my thinking hasn't changed since my (May of 2022) response to the question.

Currently I tow a 6500 lb camper a dozen times a year, and basketwife and I hit the road as often as it takes our fancy visiting family and friends in various places. Camper aside, the truck remains our road trip vehicle of choice.

So if my current Titan went belly up today, I'd be okay with a garage queen '23 or '24 as a replacement. Otherwise, my comment about an F150 or a RAM 1500 holds.

I would have to look at mid-size trucks if I couldn't get another Titan, or the Titan gets bigger. The current generation Titan 1/2 ton is the only full-size crew-cab truck that will fit in my garage. All other makes are too long. It was just a coincidence that I have owned Nissans in the past...and have had great experiences regarding reliability and value with all my Nissans.

Yea, they get pretty long. I saw a lot of people wanting an XD but at that point it would get too hard to park in many places. I actually saw one at Home Depot 2 weeks ago and asked the owner about it. He loves it quite a bit.

I live in the city and I parked my Titan just fine and I like to park farther away. It would be too big for a boring business guy like me, but I did like the long bed haha.

I see people here doing that 100k and just starting ng their concrete or yard business. My brother in law has a crew cab 4x4 f250 with 24" custom rims and low profile tires to haul around his concrete trailer. What the hell do you need that expensive a truck when you just started that company 6, months ago and have only been doing business for family?

My step dad owned his own plumbing company since he got out of the Marines in 80. We always had Econoline vans or rangers for work trucks
Yep. Everybody has that dream of quitting their boring job and then starting their own venture. They then realize it's harder than they thought and end up selling everything for a discount. It's best to start lean at first. I would never get a fancy truck for heavy labor use anyways. My white Titan thankfully didn't show scratches and dirt easily and did its job.

Often the people living like that are way beyond their means, so I've learned not to do it. I knew a guy who rented a lake house and would pay people to do all of these projects there even though he didn't own it. He ended up not qualifying for a mortgage on the house. Why you'd put all this money on a home you didn't own was beyond me.

All that money wasted.

I remember seeing Escalades with mowers in them back when the recession hit. My step mom got a Mercedes and lives in my grandfather's trailer. She's a truck driver and my dad washes cars on the side. That kind of spending doesn't make any sense. You end up getting bored with it anyways.

If my Titan went down, I would have to go old classic trucks (Ford, Chevy, Dodge). They were easy to work on and I still like the old classic trucks and their styling. My father owned a two tone blue 1959 Ford wrap around window f-100 and then a 1966 Ford F-100 twin-I- bream with 3 on the tree. Now those were great trucks. So old school would be the way to go for me. Just my thoughts!

My last 3 trucks were Ford F150s, all were XLTs with the 5.0 motor, 4X4 and 3.73 gears. I liked them all, drove them quite a few miles and pulled trailers for 1/3 of those miles, with no problems out of any of them. I had ordered a new F150 XLT FX4 back in February of this year and there was nothing on the order that should have caused a big delay, according to the dealer. Had the order confirmed that day by Ford and then never heard a word for 4 months. I called Ford customer service and then the dealer I ordered through and asked for an estimated time on delivery. I got no answer from either source. They were both nice enough to tell me that they had absolutely no idea when I could expect my truck, maybe not even this year and could be late in 2023. I was in town soon after I talked to Ford and stopped by the Nissan dealership, that had one full sized truck on the lot, a Red Titan Pro 4X. They also had only new two Frontiers and no Rouges. I brought the Titan home with me and cancelled the Ford. So, I'm the opposite of this question, I got a Titan because I couldn't get a Ford.

lol, if we can't bust the chops of our fellow Titan owners (or previous owners, in my case), then whose chops can we bust? :ROFLMAO:

I gave away some of my old Titan stuff to someone I'm working with that has a Titan. Their Titan really does have me missing mine. I don't miss the $60-$70 fill ups though, but I still think that the current generation Titan is a nicely packaged truck. A lot of guys will wish that the Titan was more popular, and had more marketing, but I prefer that it fly under the radar as that means that Nissan has to be super competitive with pricing. Something tells me that if Nissan were selling the #1 truck in the country, I wouldn't have been given 0% APR, and I wouldn't have been able to get as many options for the price I paid. This is what makes the Titan a great prospect. Something tells me that they may lose that formula, especially if they get rid of the 5.6 and try to share the Z's powerplant. Sadly, putting the TTV6 in the Titan may be the only thing that saves it. If you have a V8, I'd do my best to take care of it.

#44 ·
yup because if its a v6, you might as well get a frontier

Bottom line is this: will Titan buyers buy enough new Titan V8’s to save it when combined best model mileage is 18 compared to 25 on the other full size brands. I think it is going away sooner than later, especially with $6/gal gas. I hope not though, this was my 5th Titan since 05. A new Lightning loaded is $100k+, that would buy a lot of gas.
