hey guys, i was trying to get out of a tight parking spot by a curb and drove forward and my right tire hit the curb. after that i backed uop and it started to get hard to steer. i pulled forward to another parking spot and there was red fluid everywhere. in this picture, should that shiny part be like that or did the cover of it get pushed out. because nothing is that clean under my truck. the right rubber boot to the tierod seemed like the folds were tight together and the left seemed normal. so how much would it cost to buy a new one or can i fix this one? and how would i replace the whole rack and pinion?

It looks like it pulled that sleeve off when you hit that curb. I've heard of others that have had the same problems, usually with large lifts and tires. A new one from Nissan is about $1000. However, you can get a re-manufactured one off of ebay from Garo Steering for $280, and then get another $50 back when you send the core back in. My rack and pinion had a lot of play, so I replaced it with a re-manufactured ebay one from Garo Steering and it was much tighter. Great customer service. First one I got was damaged so I sent it back, they sent another one no questions asked. I sent my core back in and got my $50 back. All free shipping too!

good to know about garo. i was going to start a thread on my steering, don't want to hijack this one but my steering has a click in it when i turn it. my mechanic tighted something up and it stopped it but its back. can only hear it when i'm sitting still. makes the noise either way i turn but only when i stop the wheel and start again, its not continuous.

well i got the 3 bolts that hold the assembly on they were tight as sh*t, but now im stuck on the actual steering stem coming off. i took the bolt right off the clamp that holds ontot he splines, i even stuck a flat head screwdriver in it to seperate the clamp piece but still no luck. is there a trick at all to it? and when i go to refill it do i just fill the reservoir up ontop of the engine and let it bleed itself then top it up?

Yeah, even after loosening the bolt, it stays pretty tight on those splines. I just used a hammer and a screw driver and hammered it off. As for refilling, that's what I did. Watch out though, it drinks that PS fluid pretty fast. I turned the wheel from lock to lock a few times to bleed out all the air.
