Just installed Prerunner Greg's leveling kit

After much contemplating about which leveling kit to get for my crew cab 4x4, I went with the PRG kit. This means a lot more than usual because I work for Nissan North America and have many kits to pick from free of charge. After looking at the different kits (daystar/revtek etc) I ended up paying for the PRG kit rather than getting one of the other ones for free. I guess the most important thing for me is ease of installation, quality, and spring rate. As we all know, these trucks have a very progressive front coil spring. Anything which will take away the first inch of compression will cause the truck to ride on the stiffer part of the coil sooner. I also like the fact that I can put this truck back to stock in about an hour with simple hand tools (no spring compressor needed).

The install was very easy. I went to Greg's house last night (yes, he installed another one for someone) and he had them on in about an hour. Like most everyone says, it does not look dramatically different in pictures, but in person it is very noticeable. Getting in an out now is even different. Watch that first step getting out, its a doozy!! After the install, I had to stop twice before I made it to the freeway to look at it in the light of a gas station parking lot. It really is the perfect height now. It looks very level, but if I put a tape on it, it is about 3/8 to 1/2 higher in the rear. After seeing the front suspension on these trucks, it is definately better to have it on the lower side of leveled. More front lift would cause the upper control arm to hit the coil bucket and have more possibility of alignment issues. When I park the truck on level ground, it sits level, but in my driveway, the front looks higher (havent figured that one out yet).

Driving dynamics are perfect now. I have always felt that these trucks were a little too biased to the front. Now that front is lifted I think the weight transfer to the rear cause the truck to ride much better on the freeway and on surface street dips. Its like the suspension is preloaded and ready to take freeway expansion joints and dips like the baja race Titan. Honestly, when I first left Greg's house it really reminded me of the race Titan since that is the only other lifted Titan I have been in. I love where the hood ends now when I pull up behind a Civic at a light. The truck goes so straight down the road and the toe is still dead on. My truck did not require a toe adjustment (I know it is different for eveyone)

The kit works perfectly, the look is awesome, and driving is better than stock. I highly recommend this kit to everyone thinking about getting one! I cant wait to show it off at work to all the stockers. We will be racing Laughlin next month, so if anyone is out there look for my truck (silver crew 4x4) or the race truck (now a bright red Titan) and I shouldnt be too far away.

Thanks again Greg, I love it. Tell Jen sorry for taking you away from dinner....for the 3rd night in a row haha

exactly what pilikua said!!! i was just about to say all that... :bouncy: No seriously pilikua you couldn't have said it any better. that was me the night before, getting an install and there was another titantalk member the night before me, i too stopped off at the Chevron gas station right around the corner from Greg's house to admire, what in my mind was a new truck to me. i was like some spoiled teenager looking back at their first car as i was walking inside to buy something, anything. i found an excuse to go inside just so i could walk back out just to admire the work of greg's lift on my titan. honestly it rides just a tad bit different but in a very good way. the ride feels better and i believe it is because it IS level, the dynamic effect of leveling it has improved the ride. My ride home from Greg's in Riverside back down to Escondido was amazing. seeing the hood line higher put a smile on my face and looking over at the passenger window sill level with the ground just made me laugh. i am just amazed at how having Greg's lift installed has made such a HUGE impact on how i feel about my titan. It is simply day and night looking at it. my wife, when she saw it the next morning was just like WOW!!! she said it just looks so much better. i didn't think she would notice or even think much has changed, frankly because she's a woman and i just thought that she just wouldn't care but as i felt to Greg's lift DOES make a difference. we were in San Marcos yesterday and my wife says, hey that titan has a lift too, and i look over and sure enough its a smoked big tow kc titan with greg's lift in it too. my guess is it was DOBERBOY (was that you doberboy?) anyhow, i can't understand why we still get debates like: Revtek/Daystar or PRG's lift? it is very clear cut that only one is perfect and if you can't figure that one out then you should be eliminated from the gene pool...

Greg, many thanks and i too must send my apologies to Jen for keeping you from dinner, oh and also thanks for letting me ride in your titan - that thing is bad a s s. i'd love to modify just like yours... my wife thinks riding in your titan was a mistake, because now i want to follow in your footsteps with modifications. :eveilgrin

Prometheus that is so funny about the window sill. I was looking at the window sill the whole way home hahah. my sill slopes forward a tad but it still looks higher in front in my driveway??????? I have never driven the truck so slowly on the way home. I wanted to savor every minute of the new ride before I got home haha

pilikua,

holy crap, i drove the whole way home like a 92 year old senior citizen, how funny. i was in a happy zone driving home, as you did, savoring the drive home. i was looking at my window sill and you're right - just a smidge lower in the front but MUCH better than before and yes depending where i park rather than looking level the front looks higher, weird  but good.

hey did Greg give you a ride in his titan? riding in his titan was freeekin' exhilarating and to think he's far from done with modifying it.

in terms of the cost of PRG's lift, i strongly feel the price is more than reasonable and ABSOLUTELY worth every penny!!!

After a couple days of driving through dips, I have no upper control arm contacting the coil bucket. Granted I am taking it a little easy too, but just in normal driving they do not touch. I also have to say that since I do not have the step rails, the truck looks much taller too. There is a ton of light under the truck haha. I really like the way it looks from the front now too with the lower control arms angled down. The new stance really shows off the front skid plate.

Where to get PRG's kit?

I am new to this site and just came across this thread. I am interested in this leveling kit because I've already bent my skidplate up 4wheelin' up here in the San Bernardino Mtns. I don't want to go with too high of a lift since I drive in deep snow and mud frequenty.
Thanks

I am running the non-offroad kit with my non-offroad package. Sammy, as greg has stated got a hold of a PRG offroad kit for cheap somewhere, however he's got a non-road packaged titan so to compensate for the fact that the offroad kit spacers are not as high as the non-offroad kit spacers he had to use a 1" polyurethane spacer on the top. hope this helps!!!

I was mainly asking to see if you guy's may have a non-OR truck but went with the OR kit for the slight rake. Pilikua was saying that his was slightly higher in the rear.

lurking here...has anyone used Greg's kit and then added a small block in the back? i think the raked look is fine for me, but want to add all inches all around...say the 2" up front with like a 1" or 2" block in the rear... or am i completely off track?
thanks in advance

I'm doing that. I'm adding 2" untapered blocks, flipping and upsizing the u-bolts (5/8" Grade 8), and getting new shocks. I built the blocks myself using two pieces of 1" thick steel plate welded all around, plus a solid 1/2" rod welded down the center.

I had the 5/8" U-bolts and spring top plates custom made to my specs by these guys: http://www.customsuspension.com/Products.php

Shocks are all I still need. They are necessary, at least on the Off-Road package trucks. Mine have little more than 2" extension left sitting still, so if lifted 2" they are topped out. Just got to get off my butt and order them......

Performancelifts.com has blocks, but I'd stick with an untapered (flat) block. That way you can still get the same amount of gear oil in your rear end before it runs out the fill hole.

I had the same thought, didn't want to go too high with a full lift kit. I am very happy with the results. I installed Greg's spacers, then took the truck to a local leaf sping shop and they added one leaf while re-arching the whole pack for a 2" lift in the back while adding approximately 1,000 pounds of carrying capacity. They charged me $425 including all the labor and hardware. I dropped it off on the way to work and it was ready by lunchtime. The next day i took it to an excellent local tire shop who did a great job on the alignment. Turns out the factory had the caster set quite differently from one side to the other. So not only did they fix a factory goof up but after Gregs spacer install she's right back to spec and handles better than before with the firmer rear suspension.
So, suspension is done, next is intake and exhaust, probably in the sping after I get a few more miles on this rig.
