K&N Vs Fram Airhog

Has anyone read a comparison of these two brands and would the potential performance gains be comparable?

I've always used K&N in the past, but if theres a equal benefit to the Fram AirHog and the price is cheaper I might be willing to give it a try.

Welcome to Titantalk Speedfreak,

I have the K&N filter and I did notice some improvement in the higher rpm range. I'm in my 6th month with this thing and the most impact it did was in its 1st week. After that, it feels like nothing now.

both filters have comparable results but a muffler will do wonders.

Get rid of the Y pipe and get a larger pipe. You can go for duels for looks but you won't get as much as a single in torque.

I want to get the Air Hog, but I can't find the freakin thing any where!

Christ, I am an idiot. I didn't even think about ordering. I was getting so pissed with Auto Zone never getting back with me. MO Titan did a bad thing.

Although, I might wait and get a CAI. If Volant would make one with the air tube for an OR titan. Thanks though Quad T

Speaking of Volant and K&N, I know there have been numerous threads on this, but which is better if there is any difference at all. Also on the K&N there are 2 diff styles one is CARB/50 state legal and the other isnt. From what I can tell the non-50 legal gives better performance, and it is only illegal in states that dont allow under the hood modifications. Is this correct?
If so the non-50 legal is cheaper and posts better numbers than the 50 state legal.

No problemo MO...

I think I will go with the Air Hog, I have to keep the mods to an extreme low on the truck, I have two cars that demand my mod monies. :)
Just wait til you start rompin on it, you will get bit by the mod bug :muncher: :muncher: :muncher: :muncher: :muncher: :jester:

You say that now when you don't even have the truck yet. We'll see. :jester:
Sad but true...
3M Clear bra
Airhog
Softopper
Undercover tonneau
Chrome 4x4 badge
Chrome tailgate piece
Running and brake light insert for receiver hitch
Chromed SE wheels
Swap big tow mirrors for smaller regular ones

Yup, I'm in trouble...

I took mine out. After 6 months, it's hardly dirty, no seat-of-the-pants change in the truck, and the fact that there's little dirt in it makes me wonder what's getting past it. :smoke:

PM me if you want to talk about buying mine, I'll make you a deal.

If you want new, I got mine next-day at NAPA.

I did a 3-way test a while back between K&N, Fram Air Hog and Nissan panel filters. I basically measured pressure drops of each filter at WOT/6000rpm while driving on the highway. I also did comparisons at various no-load rpms while my truck was parked. This was done using a digital manometer. Bottom line is that the Air Hog outperforms both the KN and Nissan filters. I'm sure the Nissan filter does the best job of filtration, though.

When I get the Volant CAI, I'll do another comparison with it and post all the numbers for those interested.

I had the K&N off road air charger on my 04, and now have the 77 series on my 05. Neither one is street legal in Calif. We don't have smog checks in the Northern part of the state so it doesn't matter.
As far as performance I see no difference. In fact I see no difference visually between the two. The only difference is in the installation. The 77 series uses fewer clamps etc. and is much easier to install. On the 77 you have a choice of a silver metal tube or plastic, the off road version comes with a plastic tube.

Damn, I thought i was the only one who had, let alone knew what a manometer was. Need it for the T.B.I on my Vette.
Very useful tool for checking gas pressure, duct press, etc in HVAC systems I work on. This UEI one I have now is nice because it's digital and will read differential pressures, too.

Thanks Guys,

I got a bit carried away with my last pickup (98 Chevy 350) and in the end it became a poor excuse for a daily driven truck and much more of a weekend warrior.

I decided with my Titan to improve it slightly, but keep it as a family vehicle. With this in mind I will likly do some sort of intake mod (not sure if I will stay with a simple K&N filter or the K&N intake kit) , possibly a hypertech type tuning module when its available but the exhaust will remain stock for a while ( I actually like its sound )

Im not sure on the Titan but on my Chevy opening up the exhaust with 2 chamber Flowmasters gave me less than 5hp at the rear wheels and in my opinion was uneeded until much later when I added a supercharger.

Actually, the dirtier the fiber filters get the more dirt they trap. Yet, the less air travel-the dirtier they get. Don't believe one advetisement over another as they can jimmie the test data any way they please. After you choose a brand make sure you disconnect your battery momentarily after you install the filter. SureFlow claims an outrageous gain in HP, somehing like 18-20 hp!! If you buy that, well then shame on you.
