Loud shaking noise

I was at a 4 way stop sign today and as I started to cross the road and accellerate all of a sudden there was a LOUD shaking, shimmering noise and the the vibration could be felt all around the truck. The best way to describe it was my grandma used to have this huge wooden frame bed and as a kid I had to move it for her so she could clean under it. It was so big it took everything I had to push it and it would JITTER and vibrate as I moved it across the tile floor. Thats what happened today. It was the first time. I came to a stop and got out to inspect. I was probably going about 20mph when this happened. I got back into my truck and went on to my call. It did not happen anymore after that. It's almost like the transmission seized up or something. I have an 04 Nissan Titan with 322K miles. I haven't changed the trans fluid in a long time.
Any suggestions? No CEL on either when this happened. Thanks:nerd:

Iv'e had it sputter out before and sure enogh it was the relay. I had it poop out the highway and at red lights before. This was WAY different. It was loud...no loss of power...it was like something just seized up the forward motion and the shaking was quite severe....scared the hell out of me. My first thougt was that one of my front wheels was coming off or my axle blew up. It got my attention REAL quick

Ok, I found this thread: Re: Need Help, Severe Shaking

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

well, went all up and down the driveline looking for any signs of wear and i believe i found the culprit

Carrier Bearing, Center Bearing, Propeller Shaft bearing whatever u wana call it has taken a complete sh!t on me :\

This is PROBABLY my issue. Will have a shop look at this tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback guys!

Anyone know how much it costs to replace this?

I've no help with this issue, but am just curious as to what can cause the carrier bearing to fail? Axle wrap? High mileage, routine wear & tear?

If it is the carrier bearing failing, coming to a complete stop "resets" it - for a short while. And accelerating gingerly keeps it in place?

The severe juddering being the drive shaft out of alignment due to said bearing?

Thanks - and OP I hope it's a smooth fix (whatever it might end up being...).

The 322K miles might have something to do with it. :)

NOPE! Not the miles baby....this darling of mine takes a lickin and keeps on tickin....one of the best trucks I've ever owned!
Knock on wood I've had only minor repairs done on my truck. My first serpentine belt was replaced at 210K! This ol baby
just purs like a kitty going down the road even with 330K miles now!!!.

Problem with the violent shacking was the main carrier bearing housing. Found a guy to replace it all for around 100 bucks!

Problem solved!

Lookin forward to my next 200k!. Yeeeeeha!
