I am looking for a similar recommendation...

I have a FT Access tonneau cover (with side rails mounted on the Utilitrack system) and would like a rack for hauling a kayak...

Suggestions?

I have been wondering this same thing for awhile as well. Is anyone using their stake pockets for a rack?? I'm guessing that one of the low profile tonneau's would work with something that uses the stake pockets?

I'd also like to occasionally throw a kayak on a rack in conjunction with a tonneau.

 

Where I have the factory installed bed liner, I am wondering what is under the little squares at the corners of the bed rails. It looks like your could score around the little square with a razor, and the stake pockets would be under them. But I'm wondering it that leads to problems with the bedliner, as water and road salt could get under the bed liner, when the stake pockets are exposed.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to remove and put back the stake pocket covers on the bed liner.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Or is is removing the bed liner at the stake cover a one time only task?

 

I am wondering the same thing. I believe that a Tracrac will work but can't get a definite yes or no from anyone. I have e-mailed both Truxedo and Tracrac but didn't get a useful response.

I have cut the plastic covers out over my stake holes and put in some tie downs. Yes it is a one time thing. Once you cut the plastic out it can't be reinstalled (I guess you could try and glue it back up somehow but it would probably look kinda ratty)

The stake holes are pretty shallow, only about 3" deep so they wouldn't be much good for using some type of a rack that simply sticks a piece of pipe or wood in the stake hole. That wouldn't be structurally strong enough and there isn't any way to secure them in the stake holes since you can't access the holes.

I currently have the oem overhead rack that fits to the utility track system. No cover will fit. I have looked high and low. I am back to building my own out of marine grade polycarbonite. It will run me about $500 but should look real good, easy to come off, fold out of the way, and be secure. All I have to do is order the stuff and get started. Just cant find time with work and doing the Scouts thing with my son.

 

I'm considering building a rack from wood....something like a letter T. The first issue is how to afix the vertical member (probably a 4x4) to the side wall of my bed. I don't want it permanently attached, as I want to use the cover when not using the rack.

I was considering industrial Velco, but don't know if that will hold/be stable enough.

Does anyone have any ideas?

 

I know this is an old thread, but since I never found an answer, I actually tried it and found out that the answer is NO - you can not use tracrac with a Truxedo. I thought about adding a 1" spacer to get it to work, but just bailed on the idea. I am now thinking about trying the US Stake Pocket Rack if I can find out if it comes off easiliy - meaning that I leave the mounts in the stake pockets and just disconnect the frame - don't want to drive around with just holes in the bed.
