So, could you spray a layer of plasti-dip on and then colormatch over it?

Great thread!! I was actually going to start asking people questions about different spots to use plasti-dip. By the looks of it, you can use it mostly anywhere. I want to try and do my door handles as well. Anyone know or think it may stick to the 2 piece cowl by the wipers? I guess I don't feel like removing them just yet and want them to look a little more black than that faded black look. I'll remove the cowl pieces when I get it color matched to the color of my truck.

as posted elsewhere....my cowl
Man it looks great!! Can't tell but did you do the wiper arms too???
That's it, I'm plasti-dippin my cowl this Sunday!!! Can't stand the faded look. This stuff will peel off when I'm ready to take it off the cowl too right?
thanks, yep wiper arms were sprayed too

three coats, did it on the truck, figured it was quicker to mask then remove and then drive to nissan for a couple of clips i broke and reinstall :)

yes it peels off

I knew it, the wiper arms looked too good as well, haha. I was thinking the same thing too, masking off the front area such as the hood and the corners and windshield. Did you take off the arms to spray them or leave them on and mask off the windshield?

#35 ·
Yup left the arms on but obviously took the blades off, left them in an up position, easy enough

i masked, then masked newspaper to the masking tape that was down, went up the windshield, sides and hood were covered a good 2+ feet for overspray

a few minutes of prep beats finding black spots a week later

I did all of my emblems in Plasti-Dip a month or so ago. So far so good. I think I will pull out my grille screen this weekend and do it also since it's not as dark as my front badge. In the second picture I had not cleaned the Plasti-Dip out from inside of the letters.

Has anyone used the clear plasti-dip? I wonder how it looks once it's dried. I thought about using it to help protect from rock dings and chips on the front of the hood and the colored parts of the front bumper. Basically use it in place of those vinyl protection kits you can buy for certain vehicles. I figured it was a good idea since it would peel off if it got damaged or anything. It would be way cheaper than those kits and prob way easier to apply. Not that I have installed any of those vinyl kits but I figure they are a pita.
