Please Have a Listen - JBA Headers and Cajun B-Pipes

Hey All,

I got the Stage 1 header and B-pipe package from Cajun as recommended for my Armada. I knew it would probably be too loud for me but didn't have a choice as it sounded like my manifold(s) were cracked with an air spitting sound under acceleration.

I'm starting to get used to the volume but I am hearing a tinny/raspy/air sucking/flowing sound which increases with acceleration and wondering if that is normal. You can clearly hear it in the first vid when I stick the phone under the passenger side. I am open to ideas if this can be resolved (i.e., additional UQ?) as I'm not enjoying it as it sounds louder than the OEM manifold sound (still need to see if they were actually cracked - upon quick inspection I didn't see any). The last vid me driving but you can't hear the air flowing sound as well but it is prominent.

I am also curious if there is an install issue (I had a Nissan mechanic do the install as a side job). When I looked at it on the lift all the pipes mated nicely but I have not had time to get under it while running yet and really investigate.

For reference, I have:
  • JBA Headers
  • Cajun Catted B-Pipes (Heavy Metal Cats)
  • FlowPro Muffler
  • JBA Catback
  • UQ Resonator
  • Headers/B-Pipes were installed with the Cajun recommended Nissan OEM gaskets.
(note, this entire exhaust is because the OEM exhaust rusted off otherwise I would have left it stock)

I have a similar sound on my Titan, which is equipped exactly like your Armada.
The OEM stuff was much heavier walled steel with some heat shields and a different collector design. That's what I think are the causes of the different sound.

I also am not a fan of the sound. I have had the truck in to check for issues twice now, and both times the guy told me that is how this kind of setup sounds.

I also had an Airaid MXP on it, and I had to sell that because it was just too darn much noise.

I have remote start on my truck, and when I start the truck in the morning it sounds like a NASCAR race is about to begin. But, since I hate my neighbors (live in a pesky HOA) I derive great joy from the noisiness of my truck. I am beginning to "embrace" the new, unruly sound of my truck.

Have you had your truck tuned yet? Mine is tuned, much peppier than before. Going in for a TruTrac this week to try and get some traction, too much gas causes my (well, probably ONE) BFG KO2's to spin pretty easily.

I have another car to drive when my Titan becomes too much, I pretty much just drive it when I feel like being a jerk.

Ha - that’s funny about the neighbors.

I would say we are in the minority as for most guys on car forums the louder the better.

I’m with you and don’t mind it a little louder than stock. When I had the JBA catback installed it was unbearable until I got the UQ put on. Then I liked it but had drone but I lived with it. I had a rattle and a muffler shop said it was my muffler so I switched it out for the FloPro. That was the sweet spot for me - a bit of rumble but quiet on the highway and zero drone.

I knew I would have to deal with louder with the headers but I didn’t think it would be NASCAR like you said.

Is there anything that can be done to add more dampening? Like wrapping the pipes or spraying them with something? Would another UQ help?

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who feels this setup is uncomfortably loud.

I have the base tune on and Joe notes one of my O2 sensors is failing so I’m gonna replace that next weekend and do the logs again.

Even still I can spin the wheels at WOT. So it definitely has more power. I just wish someone made an OEM sounding exhaust that didn’t disintegrate.

Normal. Can't tell from your videos, but it's more pronounced if you don't have your wheel well liners in on the front. You have thinner pipes now so you're going to get more engine noise. I have a video somewhere of just headers no pipes, and that noise is a lot louder.

Your exhaust sounds louder than mine, but I rarely ever hear mine driving if I'm not in the truck. Only difference between our exhausts is the muffler. I have JBA. It's about the quietest you can get that's not OEM.

As far as I could determine that's just engine/intake noise. You could take the header off and wrap them I guess, but that's a lot of work for a little bit of go fast noise.

I have the full Cajun/JBA exhaust with the UQ resonator and an Airaid MXP. When cruising with a light foot (most of the time for me), it sounds pretty much stock, very tame. When I put my foot into it, it's a totally different beast and gets pertty loud. I get the best of both worlds.

When I first installed the system, I didn't add the UQ resonator right away and the drone from 1200-2000 RPM was obnoxious. The UQ resonator really tamed it. There is still a louder tone at those RPMs, but it's insignificant.

I don't think most people would have any idea I have the full exhaust under normal driving circumstances.

Thanks for the screen shots. Looks like it was FP746 which has the 3" in/out center/offset.

This is assuming a single exhaust pipe so if your application has dual or your outlet is smaller you may want to go with another model.

These were the two mufflers recommended to me from KingRJ on the Armada forums.

When I called the company they were a bit surprised as I don't believe they dealt with many SUVs but everything went in fine.

I can't describe how much better the sound was on the FloPro vs. the JBA muffler. It sounded nearly stock until under aggressive peddle and completely eliminated the drone. Keeping in mind I am a guy who likes quiet.

Factor in I have an Armada which I think causes more drone due to the larger cabin.

True. And they did not have much knowledge about NIssan's in general.

I only replaced my muffler because a shop told me it was the cause of a rattle no one could track down. They were wrong.

Even though I spent the cash unnecessarily, the improvement in sound (drone reduction) was totally worth it.

Pipes are pipes - it fit my JBA catback no problem.
