Here's how to change your cabin air filter in 10 minutes or less. The only tools you will need are a pair of needle nose pliers, an 8mm socket and a ratchet with a 6" extension.

1. Locate your glove compartment. It's on the passenger side right in front of where the wife sits.

2. Empty all of the crap out of the glove compartment and unhook the retractable cord from the right side of the box. It will hang out of the way.

3. Push both stop pins toward the driver's side and pivot the glove compartment door down and out of the way. The door will hang without damaging it.

4. Locate the cover over the filters, unscrew the 8mm hex head screw, and remove the cover. Grab the filter on the left with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull the filter out. Slide the second filter to the left and pull it out.

5. Here's what my old filters looked like. I tried to clean the one on the left but gave up. O'Reilly Auto Parts sells replacement filters for $17.99 (MicroGard part # 3058)

6. Slide the new filters in (pay attention the flow direction arrows), put the cover over the new filters, tighten the 8mm hex head screw, hook up the retractable cord, lift the glove compartment door, push the stop pins the left again, put your crap back in the glove compartment, close the glove compartment door, have a beer.

Quick question, i have an SV, the owners manual says only the SE has cab filters. Im seeing some posts that lead me to believe that i just dont have them, but i have the set up. Is this right?

It literally takes less than 10 minutes to check or change the filters. If you don't have them you should install them. If you do, replacement filters are less than $20. I replace them every spring because my AC runs nonstop from about March through November.

Airflow arrows should point down.

Apparently the 2011's don't come with filters either!!!

I've read arrows up and arrows down on here, which is it????
Arrows go down. At least when I replaced mine, they were down, and I installed them back down.

Someone actually made a YouTube video of this...

Sorry Quarts. Didn't mean to step on your toes. Mine where installed down when I replaced the, last year, and the video says down, so I'm going with down, but looking at the filter, I really don't think it matters.
Arrows go down on the 2011. I bought filters (my truck had none either) put them in facing down. I pulled the filter a week later to find small bugs on the top side of the filter. The bottom was clean indicating a downward flow of air. I was told that the filter will have a name (Nissan, Fram...etc) along with the arrows. With the filters installed so the name can be read upright, the arrows should be pointng downward at that point.
Every one of you is correct and I'm a bonehead. You can even see the arrows in the pics in my original post. I have corrected my idiot advice i posted earlier.

I pulled the cover on my 2011 SL yesterday to see if it came from the factory with filters. I was pleasantly surprised when I found filters in place. My filters were only 9 months old but they already needed to be replaced. I also tried the method where you completely remove the glove box. Honestly I can't decide which method is easier but I took pictures and soon I will add pictures and instructions for the glove box removal method to this thread.

Don't leave them out, they are in there for a reason. All the dirt you saw on the filters would have been blown through your evaporator and coated it with crud decreasing its efficiency.
