Just ran into this thread late tonight but wanted to post a couple of pics... I will try to post parts tomorrow! BTW the picture in my sig is obviously an old picture.....
Sorry for the delay but here is a breakdown of parts/cost/purchase notes etc...

Roof Basket (Rola)

$150 – Rola Vortex roof basket (AutoAnything)

Note: This item is a really nice unit for the price however is subject to rust from the inside if you don't you don't take the following measures. To prevent the basket from rusting I caulked the ends where they come together with black automotive gasket sealant and replaced the supplied screws with stainless steel one and haven’t had a problem with rust at all as reported.

Roof Rack (Thule)

$62 – 58” Thule load bars (eBay)
$20 –Thule 1555 Travers fit kit for Toyota (eBay)
$150 – Thule Travers foot pack (eBay). Note: Could have paid less but they were hard to find at the time.
$45 – Thule 544 lock/key kit (eBay). Note: Recommended

Accessories

$26 – Inno bar end hook for hanging clothes, towels etc.

Hope this helps!

Did anybody here do this? I was wondering what they did with the weather stripping at the top of the door? Under? Over? I'm about to do this and ditch the ladder rack and buy this.

I installed a roof rack to go with my kayaking gear (Thule kayak rack & Inno kayak cradles)
- Thule TP54 54" Tracks, permanently attached to roof via rivets (per the vendor, the Thule and Yakima tracks for this model are actually the same product with different stickers)
- Yakima Landing Pads
- Yakima Control Towers & Crossbars

I needed a solution for my truck that would allow me to have a rack for my kayaks and a tonneau cover to keep my camping gear dry. This was a far cheaper solution than getting one of the expensive tonneau cover units that also has a rack.

Can you post a couple pics without the kayaks.

I'll try to take some pictures and post them for you guys. The set up I have allows me to take the cross bars off pretty easily when I'm not using them, and I have caps that go over the landing pads where the rack locks in place.

I'll have to see if I can get a good picture of how the tracks get attached to the roof. The tracks come with the flare nuts and a flare nut tool (not rivets, my apologies) for installing them. The nerve wracking part of the install is that you have to drill holes in the roof to install the tracks. The rivets go down through the track holes and expand to tighten up inside of the holes in the roof.

I found this picture online that outlines it pretty well (Top Tracks Bike Cargo | Bike Racks, Bike Roof Racks, Bike Rack Hitch - Hitch City). You line up the tracks where they should go, drill the holes, put the flare nuts in, then attach the tracks.

Check this out. Dude has a pretty sic T I've seen in person.

Yeah, that's Rybo on this forum. I've been talking to him off and on about the racks he's making, because I really wanted to find something that I could use for both my roof and camper shell. Last I heard he was trying to get ZombieRacks production rolling by the end of January. The racks look promising! Pretty sweet.

Well I pulled the trigger and found the bars, 480 feet, and the fairing for $100 on CL. I just need the foot pack and get this on my truck. I'll post some pics once I get it on. Thanks for all the info on here, I've been wanting to do this for years.

Well I installed the roof rack today to see if it could make it through my garage door. It does clear with 1" lift all around and the rack 82" to the top to clear my 7' garage door. I bought it used and it came with a 1221 foot kit. I used the foot pads from the 1221 kit (they fit the roof better) and the clips from the 1555

It's been really windy here, but I had to turn the radio up to try and drown it out. I haven't had a chance to take it for a test run yet. I'll update after I get some driving in. It probably wouldn't be as bad if you weren't going to leave them on, but I canoe often, so it's worth it to try to elevate some of the noise, because I won't take them off unless I have to. If my garage would clear a basket I would have gone that route.
