Anyone know the part number for this piece?

I tried calling around and still couldnt get an answer. I also dug through the internet trying to find that part but no luck yet. So I ziptied the shift cable to the arm so I could drive my truck again. This has got to be a common problem if this part just deteriorated like that.. all the older 2004 and 2005s hopefully see this thread. Because I feel it would happen eventually to all of them.

I just had it happen to my 2005, and was able to figure it out before I found this. I was backing out of the driveway, and went to shift to drive, and it felt like the column shifter just broke loose, and freaked me out. Pushed the truck back into the driveway, shut off the engine, but couldn't get it to turn off completely, as it was stuck in ACC. First thought was that the transmission went out, but logic kicked in and made me realize the transmission would not make the shifter act like that. Took the covers off the steering column, moved the gear shifter, and saw the linkage just hanging as the shifter was moving. Same as other people, the plastic piece had shattered into a bunch of pieces. Got a zip tie, tightened it down as much as possible, and good to go.

Now I wonder how many people this has happened to, they get the truck towed to Nissan or wherever, and are then told it's a transmission issue, when in fact it's a .10 piece of plastic.

I'll had I had the same issue. I bought the new cable. It was 30 something dollars, but don't replace the cable. Just remove the bushing and put it in the old cable. Easy fix done correctly. After I pulled the bushing I threw away the new cable. The cable doesn't ware out. It's a shame they don't just sell the bushing. 30 buck fix aint bad though.

Add another to the list. My wife backed my 2005 out of the driveway this evening, went to put it in drive and nothing but a loose column shifter. A quick search on the internet, and here we are. Have it well zip tied, and will check on it periodically. I agree with everyone that Nissan should sell the plastic bushing on its own.

Forget buying a new cable.

I used a piece of suction hose around the metal post to provide a cushion to the shift cable and used a snap ring over the post to hold it on.

Problem solved for $4 with several snap rings left over in case it goes out.

The snap rings are metal which this piece should have been to begin with.

Love my Armada but not happy with Nissan and the brittle plastic choices....

Exactly what my mechanic said to do this morning.

I’m not having much luck with my Titan as of lately. Bank 2 Cat was just replaced 2 months ago, tried to get a safety inspection done last week and the E-Brake wouldn’t work and come to find out both rear axle seals are leaking. Yesterday while driving to the recruiting station for a friend the truck threw a Bank 2 code. Once I tried to leave that freaking bushing broke and I had to tie it all together with duct tape till I got home.

Took the truck in this morning for the Bank 2, the rear axle seals and I asked him about replacing the cable. Since I bought the cable on the way home yesterday he told me to just to get a small hose and a snap ring and take the cable back since labor was going to be around $500.

I removed the rubber grommet from the new cable by gently prying/pressing it out with a screwdriver. Patiently worked it back into the old cable using the same screw driver. There is a clip that holds the cable in the back of the center console. If you remove it, you can lift the cable up and get better access when installing the grommet.

I did not use any glue or lubricant. Much easier than trying to get the two screws off the fire wall! $40 for the cable but definitively cheaper than paying the dealer to replace. Enjoy.
