It should be pretty easy to fix.

I attached how to remove the center console piece (the part that holds the shifter gate and the cupholders). Basically, you remove the shift knob, the trim piece behind the center console (youll see in the picture), and then pull up as it is attached by clips.


Once you have this piece off, you can try to fix the shifter black thingy. If you can't do it with the shifter indicator part still attached to the center console, that piece (the part that says D,4,3, etc) comes off with 4 screws. Then you should be able to get the black shifter part back in its track.

That was the ticket.. had to fight to get the trim off.. felt like I was going to break it.. but once it was off, had no problem fixing it.

I was going to ask how to take that part off I want to paint or wrap it all you have to do is pull up??

 

yeap... i grabbed the inside corner of the trim and pulled up... totally felt like I was going to break it... but it popped off.

 

when I take mine apart I found it's easiest to pull up and at an angle almost 45-50* toward the rear of the truck. Keep your foot on the brake and the key in too so you can move the lever around helps also. don't be afraid to put some umph in it... the whole things held together with those spring clips like the rest of our dash.
