Steering wheel controls going out/ horn

Hey,
Over the past few months my radio channel changer up and volume button up have stopped working. Originally I could maybe hit it up a few times and on the 3rd or 4th the volume would go up. It got worst and worst and now doesn't work. Same for the channel selector. I have gotten use to it and just use the down direction and the volume knob.
All other controls on the wheel work.

But today I was in front of my girlfriends place and honked and the horn didn't work. When I lock the truck with the remote it does honk.

1. Are these problems related?
2. It seems the controls may have just died and need replacing but I'm not sure about the horn.

Sounds like a broken clock spring. Search the forum for that.

Also called the spiral cable I believe at least that is what they were calling mine with the same problem. More and more things will stop working on your steering wheel including the airbag so your airbag light will come on. Dealership did mine and replaced the entire module (turn signal and all) instead of just the cable not sure why and they had a really hard time getting the parts for my 06

So will replacing the clock spring fix just the horn or will it fix the controls too? Meaning do I need to go out and by the little radio and cruise control controls also?

I would start with the clock spring and go from there. It could be the thing causing all the problems, but until you replace it you wont know for sure

Will this also cause the manual shift selector to not operate correctly? That no longer works when I push the button on the end of the shifter. Then I experienced the exact same issue as the OP. Any help is appreciated.

Edit: Nope wasn't the clock spring but the commonly occurring broken black wire in the harness of the shift selector. Fixed that using the thread about that.

Definitely the clock spring. Mine did the same exact thing. I found one on ebay for about 70$. Its not hard to replace either. Took me about 30 mins. Solved all my problems:big_grin:

My dad's 2011 did the same, and it was the clock spring. He had a shop do replace it, even though I read up and thought it seemed pretty easy. The main thing to remember is to disconnect the battery for some amount of time (can't remember how long now) so the airbag doesn't go off.
